Welcome to
Knox
County, Tennessee
A proud member of the TNGenWeb Project
![]() Knox County is located in East Tennessee, one of the state's three" Grand Divisions". It was created 1792 from Greene and Hawkins counties. Knox County was named in honor of Henry Knox (1750-1806), American Revolutionary War artillery commander, one of the founders of the Society of the Cincinnati and first U.S. secretary of war. Knoxville is the county seat of Knox County. |
We are Rose-Anne Cunningham Bray and Billie R. McNamara , co-coordinators for the Knox County website.
Do you have Knox County genealogical or historical information to share? Dust off that old family Bible; dig out Grandpa's store ledgers; 'rediscover' those old pictures. We'd love to link your information to our site! Please contact us for more details.

We celebrated
Tennessee's
200th Birthday in 1996!
