Hi,

The seven Islands Methodist Church is on Knox Hwy Rte 19, 1/2 mile east of

Newmans Landing. It's just about a mile form the Old Peters Mill (My

G-Grandfather mill On Tuckahoe Creek) just across from Newmans landing

where Russell Newman's grandfather owned and lived nearby. The Bowmans (ca.

1800) lived nearby or next to SevenIslands. One of the Oldest Cemetery in

the US/TN. is there at the Church.

Thanks, Dwight! I didn't realize Tuckahoe Creek was that long! I know

where it is up here in Kodak.

My Knox County families are: (some are in Union County)

Ludwig CLAPP III, wife Barbara CORTNER from NC

son George CLAPP, wife Mary (Polly) WALKER m. 1838 in Knox County

(Mary was a daughter of Daily WALKER and Drusilla EPPES, married 1817 in

Knox County

their son James Maynard CLAPP (1840 - 1923 ) married 1)Margaret

DeVault 2) Eady HANKINS

Eady (Edith) HANKINS was a daughter of Eli HANKINS (son of Abraham

HANKINS and Sarah SKAGGS) and ? either Nancy GRAVES or Sarah RENFRO?

James and Eady had a son named Jesse, who married Hattie BOOKER. Hattie

was a daughter of Lee BOOKER and Alice KELLY.

Lee was a son of James BOOKER and Orlena CARDEN, Alice was a daughter of

Campbell KELLEYand Emma MYNATT.

Obviously, I know more about some of these than others. Does anyone

have these families?

Subject: Interesting insights on Knox County history

Jack Neely writes columns for Metropulse newspaper. They are

outstanding. It's amazing how much he knows about the county's

history. His weekly columns are on-line at http://www.metropulse.com

This week's is a more recent bit of history, but it's still very

interesting. http://www.metropulse.com/dir_zine/dir_1999/948/t_secret.html

Jack has written books and does lectures about "Knoxville's Secret

History." His books are excellent, and the price is very reasonable. You

can find out more about them at Amazon: search for neely knoxville

You can also purchase the books in Knoxville at the East TN Historical

Society's book store. ETHS members get 10% off the cover price.

Subject: East TN Quakers -- read this quick!

The headline article on this week's Metropulse website (Knoxville's

way-cool alternative newspaper) is about modern-day Quakers in East

Tennessee. They rotate the articles off fairly quickly, so you should go

look as soon as possible if this is a topic of interest to you.

Hi, Paula! Thanks for introducing us to your research issues. It looks

like you've got some cuzzins already on the list, so I'm sure you'll find

some help here.

Hi listers,

This is a good site for maps. However, they don't print out so as you can

read them.
