McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: Bridges family artifact This is on eBay as a military dogtag, but it looks more like a luggage tag to me! Anyway, if you've got Bridges kin, you'd probably want to know about it: DOGTAG: Samuel D.Bridges,Harvey J.Bridges,RT.20 Ball Rd.Knoxville Tenn.7-4-54 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=212745038 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Dec 1999 08:11:50 -0600 From: "Pat" <pat@internetpro.net> Subject: Poor Farm Has anyone heard of a "Poor Farm" or "County Farm" in Knox Co. TN. Pat ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Dec 1999 16:20:40 -0800 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: Special request from your list mistressses OK, this is slightly unethical, but I hope you'll forgive me -- it's for a good cause! There's a Knoxville history book for sale on eBay. It's one of the books that Rose-Anne and I have been scanning and converting for the Knox County website, but we have to use a library copy. If you are an eBay browser and run across it and feel compelled to purchase it, we'd appreciate it if you'd hold off bidding against us. I'd hate to get into a bidding war with a fellow list subscriber! When we're done, if someone's just dying to have the book, we won't be stingy. Thanks.... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Dec 1999 20:25:31 -0800 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: Fwd: Brooks/Ramsey/Haynes/Helton Received this personal note with a request to forward it here. If you have an interest in this family, please correspond directly with Ms. Taggart.

McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: Re: Poor Farm Oh, yes, Pat. It was still in existence when I was a child. The county farm/poor farm was on Maloneyville Road, near the present-day county penal farm in northeast Knox County. After it stopped being the poor farm, the buildings became Hillcrest Nursing Home. My mother worked there when I was young, and I remember thinking how depressing a place it was. It was eventually torn down.

A friend of ours has a deed to property on Bay's Mountain that mentions the lands of Penitentiary Walker in the surveyor's metes and bounds. We're just curious who he was, and why he was called that. There could be buried treasure on this land! <g> ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Dec 1999 09:54:02 -0800 From: "Billie R. Just as I suspected, Norton's Antivirus Research Center predicts that the remainder of 1999 will see us flooded with virus iterations. What is it with these hackers? There has to be a special pit in Hell just for virus code writers! This is NOT what I wanted for Christmas.... The real pooper about this announcement is that we've got a mIRC-transmittable version now. I'm glad I don't accept files from other users via mIRC.....
