Subject: Susannah Hall

I recently got a reply to a query I put onto the site. It was about

Susannah Hall. I deleted the message, so I don't know who to address this

to, but I just came across some information about Susannah from my Fraker

cousin in Colorado.

Here is what I have. Susannah Hall married Wm Anton Fraker , I believe in

Knox Co. TN. Susannah was the daughter of Zachariah Hall and Mary " Polly

" Nelson. She was born about 1820.

Wm Anton and Susannah had these children:

1. Talitha E. Fraker b.23 Sept 1839 Knox Co. d. 4 June 1896 m. Richard

Graves 8 Dec 1859 Knox Co. Richard, son of Jacob Graves and Sophia ?

2. Mary E. Fraker b. ca 1842 Knox Co. m. William Warwick 7 Sept 1865 Knox

Co.

3. Zachariah Anthony Fraker b. ca 1844

4. Harriet Fraker b. ca 1850 Knox Co. m. Jessie Stanley 16 July 1871,

Knox Co.

Susannah Hall Fraker died between 1851 and 1857 in Knox Co, TN

Hope this has added some knowledge to someone.

Thanks.......

Ann England-Hicks

Rose-Anne noticed a significant drop-off of mail on the list -- from the

personal messages I've gotten in the past few days, it appears Christmas is

getting in the way of genealogy!!! How dare it! <g>

Because of that, we'll put the trivia competition on hold until after January.

Now -- remember your hard-working list and web mistresses when you're

creating seasonal chocolate delicacies....wave them in front of the monitor

and we'll smell them (which is much better for either of us than eating them!)

A couple of weeks ago, we went around the list and identified

ourselves. Please tell us a little about yourselves and your Knox County

research. Don't be shy -- we're all friends here.

And, those South and West Knox County people could use a few more in their

corner. Right now, North Knox County (especially Fountain City -- and more

specifically Central High School alums) leads in the resident/former

resident/research interest department.

Hi List, I have earned a free trip (on my VISA) to Salt Lake City that

has to be applied for before Dec 31 and taken in 2000. I've never been

to the FHL. Has anybody out there been there and want to offer advice?

Is there a tour going from this area? I don't want to spend my time

there doing what I could have done here if I had been smarter. Help me

be smarter. Happy Holidays to everyone. Betty

I am new to the list also, My ancestor is David Craig. The only

connection/proof that I have that he was in Knox county TN is this. In

David's brother's will (Joseph Craig) which was run through the court in

Knox county Kentucky (NOTICE THIS IS KENTUCKY) it states that Joseph

brother, David Craig who was from Knox county Tenn was to be the

administrator of the estate. From family tradition it always stated that he

was a tavern keeper in Eastern Tenn and his wife was Mary Reed AND we all

know how well Family tradition is documentated. I have found some books

that have listed a David Craig in them. The time period is from 1785 to

1807. Which does helps. Interesting enough I havent been able to find

anything out about Mary Reed. But apparently (from family tradition) she

had a brother who was a prize fighter. Does any of this make sense to

someone? Does Knox county Tenn have a good resource library? What books

are available? Is there a society? THANKS Sally

My husband's Dunlaps were mostly in Blount Co TN, but the 1796 will of

Adam

Dunlap, Sr named a son John Dunlap. In later years a deed in Blount Co from

that John named him "of Knox Co". Just thought if I hooked on to your list I

might pick up something that would help us trace that John Dunlap.

Boy, am I jealous!!!!! <wink>

Go. Don't hesitate. Go in April or May, when the weather is better. Get

there at 7:30 when they open and stay until they close at around 11 (except

Monday nights). Plan ahead -- spend some time at your closest FHC to find

out what films or books you want to look at, then make a research game plan

(prioritized).

Then go!!!!

I haven't been there in 10 years, but I used to go all the time. I worked

between Knoxville and LA. Delta had a hub in SLC. So, I'd arrange my

flights for the longest-possible layover in SLC. I'd stow my bags in an

airport locker, grab a cab, rush to the FHL for 3 hours, then dash back to

make my next flight. With good planning, I got a ton of stuff done.....

Ms. Osborne:

Last May, I noted a message on another Bulletin Board from a person

who had just been to Salt Lake City. I asked her if she had been

to Ft. Wayne and she replied, "Yes!" Note her reply as to which was

best. That's about all I know about SLC though.

You are wise to inquire. I try Nashville, Atlanta, etc. only to find

that what I wanted was right here at home OFTEN (not always) at McClung,

UT Special Collections, LDS (West Kx or Oak Ridge) or via National

Archives. My major research is 1860-1870 dated however and mostly the

Civil War, so that makes a difference.

My most productive day in an archive was one snowy January day at the DAR

in Washington, DC when I was one of maybe three researchers all day and

about ten expert librarians were there and anxious to help. Recommended!

They have one "eight foot tall, fifty foot long wall" (don't hold me to

those dimensions) with nothing but Family Genealogies (Hardbound) filed by

Family Name, plus all kinds of other helps.

Congratulations! My VISA cash always goes the other way (me to them).

Let the rest of us know upon your return what you found most beneficial

in Salt Lake City.

There was a good article on SLC with pictures in the Smithsonian Magazine

a few years back. I haven't found an on-line source for an index to

articles in periodicals, like the UT and Lawson-McGhee Card Catalogs I

find so useful before visiting the library for books. Has anyone?

"Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature" is in most libraries, of course.

Below is the lady's answer last May:
