Subject: Another new Civil War book

Found this today. Thought I'd pass it along.

SALEM RAID: Breaking Knoxville's Supply

Line

General William Averell's Salem Raid:

Breaking the Knoxville

Supply Line - Collins - 1-57249-111-6

- - Burd St. $24.95

By December of 1863, the Union high

command was desperate

to break the 204-mile-long Virginia

and Tennessee Railroad, not

only because it was a vital

communications link between the

Confederate eastern and western

theaters of war, but because a

break then would cut the supply line

of Confederates besieging

Knoxville. Brigadier General Averelll

with 2,500 troops plunged

into the mountains of western

Virginia during one of the coldest

months of the year in an attempt to

disrupt the line. This exciting

book details one of the most

remarkable raids of the war. 6x9,

184 pages, hardcover, 23

illustrations, 10 maps, bibliography,

index.

Subject: Fwd: If you're really, REALLY bored...

This is fun! Thanks to cyberwhizbang Allen Richmond for sharing it.

I spent a few minutes playing with the Hungarian pages I've put up for Sir

Spouse John's family -- They're already in proper Hungarian syntax, but it

will be cool to offer John's English-speaking relatives a way to translate

on the fly. And, Voycabulary uses my favorite on-line English/Magyar

dictionary/szotar.....

The only problem I've found is that it truncates words with high ASCII

characters (diacriticals in this case). For instance, "reformed church" in

Hungarian is református templom -- the converter's javascript changed it

into "reform" and "tus" -- neither of which are Hungarian words. If my

page had no diacritical characters, it would've seen the words and

translated them correctly.
