Wow! We've got some cousins on here already! This is the second Brown and

Fraker message I've read!

We are quite new with the list. When Rose-Anne Cunningham-Bray took over

the Knox Co TNGenWeb site, she decided a list was needed. I agreed. So,

she delegated it to me. It already looks like we're going to have some fun!

Carol -- have you looked in Sevier County for the Atchley and Riddle

lines? Riddles are thick in East Knox County, but you'll find some in Jeff

and Sevier.

I'm a descendant of John Cate, Sr., through his son, James. My Acuff

cousin, Brenda-Joyce Fletcher, is the clan genealogist for the McClouds.

It appears we've got more people from Fountain City than anywhere on this

list so far -- of course, a lot of our folks haven't introduced themselves

yet....

Guess I need to get my backside in gear and get that Gibbs book and Miss

Nannie Hicks' book on Ftn City done up for our Knox Co TNGenWeb site....

Y'all from Fountain City will remember that big, beautiful, yellow brick

house on the corner of Broadway and Gibbs Road. I've always loved

it. Well, it's for sale. So, if you're really pining to move back home....<g>

Hi, Phyllis! You surely do have a lot of Knox County ancestry! Since you

live in Ftn City, I wonder if you have a copy of Miss Nannie Hicks' other

book -- I have the John Adair Section one, but Rose-Anne has a second one

listed on the Knox Co TNGenWeb site's bibliography. If I can get a copy of

that, I'll scan it and put it on-line.

I grew up with some Lusbys and Luttrells in East Knox County, and we had

Roths nearby. Are you descended from Micajah Frost? I have a cousin who

is, so he might be able to help you with that -- I think there's a new book

in the works (or out). Most of the Frost research is done in Campbell and

Anderson Counties, it seems. A friend of mine, Pat Holloway

<hollow@usit.net>, has been doing Bakers for years. Write to her and see

if she knows about yours!

Subject: HAMMOND & Mary ??? Knox Co. TN

Hi,

Hopeing someone can help me fill in the pieces on my father's family,

Please. Here's what I know...

J.H. HAMMOND and wife Mary ? ? came into Atlanta,GA in 1913 or by the

beginning of 1914.

They had 4 children ..

Bettie (called Lizzie) born ca. 1900

William Rufus born ca. 1902

Sarah Jane born ca. 1906

Martin Luther born. ca. 1909 (my father)

J.H. HAMMOND (date's unknown) left his wife Mary ? ? (dates unknown nor

her full name) and children prior to Jan. 1914 at a shelter in Atlanta,Ga.

It was unknown where he went, Mary remained at the shelter and the 4

children were placed in a orphanage.

The parent's said that they came from Spring Place,TN. which is a few

miles NE of Knoxville,TN.

It was said that the children were born in TN also, but I cannot find this

family at all on the 1910 TN. census, as well as other state's I have

searched.

It was also mentioned that J.H. appeared much older than wife Mary, but

that's all.

Hopeing someone on this list has HAMMOND connection's in or near Knox Co.

that maybe able to help me with this puzzle.

The ETHS has a wonderful book out called "Heart of the Valley" (History

of Knoxville, TN). It is full of biographies of prominent

Knoxvillians.. I will check as many surnames as I can and let you know

if your family is in it. May not be able to get back to you right away

though as I am suppose to be working.

Hi, Pat! You and Marjorie need to "visit." She lived around Spring Place,

which is about 2 miles south of East Towne Mall/Knoxville Center (depending

on how long you've lived in Knoxville <g>). I used to live near there,

too, but I'm not familiar with the Hammond surname. Hopefully someone will be!

What a wonderful offer, Patti! Thank you! HoV is a great book -- tons of

lists of mayors, city councilmen, etc.

Let's not all inundate her with requests, though, okay?

Hmmm.... Wonder if you'd be interested in typing up a list of the

biographies. You could post that to the list, and then people would know

whether their ancestors are there.

Thanks, Linda -- I sometimes worry about my brain running faster than my

fingers...or vice versa! <g> And thanks for the kind comments about the

Dumplin list -- I wish it were more active!!!

You sure do have some deep Jefferson County connections! And, as you said,

they all migrated through Knox County on their way west.

We've already had another message from a Walker researcher here -- and I

know there's a Walker researcher lurking <g> -- y'all might want to compare

notes!
