Thanks for the challenge, Jeanne! I hope we'll all learn a lot -- and be

prompted to share a lot!

I'll keep an eye out for your Hawkins folks when I'm snooping around. I

don't get to McClung as often as you might think I would (it's only 30

miles away), but I'll try to look next time I'm there.

Hi, Judy! Thanks for joining our list. I know our Mizz Rose-Anne will

perk up when she sees your LBL reference. Her ancestors are from there.

Caldwells are a fine old Scottish family in this area. Were they in the

Strawberry Plains area (East Knox/West Jefferson Counties)? If so, you've

got a pretty good mess of information already compiled in various forms in

Dandridge and Knoxville.

Looks like you've also got some Cocke and Sevier County links in your list

of names. Researching there can be frustrating, since both counties had

courthouse fires.

I wall already thinking that would be the best way to get the names to

everyone. I will get the list typed as soon as I can.

Hi everyone.

Billie: I'm interested in the book you're referring to about John Adair. I am researching several lines from Knox County including the direct lines of CHANABERRY, FOUST, WEBSTER, QUALLS, CLAPP. Lots more indirect lines...Adair, Legg, Albright, Shipe, White.

Of course my direct Knox County lines have links to Jefferson, Roane, Sevier etc. including RIDDLE, VanHOOZER, MORT, FRENCH in Jefferson County.

The old WEBSTER family homestead from what I can determine was on Hogskin Road on House Mountain in Mascot. Many are buried at Hopewell Cemetery across from the old Skaggston School.

Any cousins out there?

Hi, Phyllis! You surely do have a lot of Knox County ancestry! Since you

live in Ftn City, I wonder if you have a copy of Miss Nannie Hicks' other

book -- I have the John Adair Section one, but Rose-Anne has a second one

listed on the Knox Co TNGenWeb site's bibliography. If I can get a copy of

that, I'll scan it and put it on-line.

I grew up with some Lusbys and Luttrells in East Knox County, and we had

Roths nearby. Are you descended from Micajah Frost? I have a cousin who

is, so he might be able to help you with that -- I think there's a new book

in the works (or out). Most of the Frost research is done in Campbell and

Anderson Counties, it seems. A friend of mine, Pat Holloway

<hollow@usit.net>, has been doing Bakers for years. Write to her and see

if she knows about yours!

Hi y'all!

I'm Rose-Anne (or Rosey), Billie's "other half" on the Knox Co. TNGenWeb

site. We're so glad you joined us!

You probably won't hear much from me on the mailing list -- I'm the sleepy

one <g> (I work several consecutive 12-hr night shifts in the ICU, so I'm

pretty worthless for meaningful conversation until I've had a couple of days

to rest <g>). I'll be in "lurk mode" most of the time -- unless Billie can

wake me up (or somebody makes a comment about the Knox Co. website -- or a

fellow-LBL'er pops up <g>)

Now, Judy <g> -- do you have any of the BAKER, BOYD, GRASTY, HOLLAND,

CUNNINGHAMs in your LBL roots? If so, we'll have to get over into the

corner and talk <g> (Y'all -- if you've never been to the Land Between the

Lakes -- formerly known as "Between the Rivers" area in western KY, you've

missed a treat!).

Back to Knox County, now <g> --- I'll pop up from time to time and give

y'all "first peek" announcements about new "stuff" on the Knox Co site (and

we really appreciate your feedback/comments -- we want this to be *the best*

source of Knox Co. info out there <g>).

Take a look at the bibliography list -- did we miss anything?

http://www.knoxcotn.org/bibliography/index.html

Billie's "Knox Co. Mystery Album" is fantastic -- take a look!

http://www.knoxcotn.org/knoxphoto/mystalbum/

Also -- we're having fun with old state/county directories (adding more

this winter!):

- Here's the Knox County section of the State Directory (1873-4), listing

towns and their prominent businessmen:

http://www.knoxcotn.org/directories/1873state/index.html

Don't forget about the Query boards:

http://www.knoxcotn.org/knoxqry.html

We appreciate your warm welcome -- keep the party rolling!

Rosey
