Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Microfiche Reader/Printer

Hi All,

I recently ordered/purchased two microfiche reader/printers (by mistake) from

a surplus equipment sale. I really needed a MICROFILM reader/printer and I

thought that was what I was buying until it arrived. Since it was a surplus

sale, I cannot return them. I am willing to sell one of the reader/printers

at my cost ($100.00) plus shipping. I cannot guarantee anything because I

purchased it "as is". It is a Minolta RP502 Microfiche Reader/Printer (the

kind you find in libraries) and weighs approximately 150-175 lbs. It appears

to be in fairly good condition, except the power cord has a fray in it and

the paper tray is missing. I know there is toner in it because some spilled

out into the shipping box.

If anyone is interested, please email me at CNmyroots@aol.com

Those who've joined our list in the past little bit haven't stepped up to

the "mike" and introduced yourselves. And, the "old-timers" should

re-introduce yourselves, most likely.

In addition to telling us about your Knox County interests, why not add

something about your areas of expertise in genealogy/history? I know, for

instance, we have two ladies on our list who have outstanding knowledge and

have offered to help other list members -- one is an Irish research expert,

and the other is a German research expert.

I was born and raised in Knox County. Most of my Knox County connection is

that. The bulk of my East Tennessee ancestors came from Oliver Springs

(Roane/Anderson/Morgan intersection) and Dumplin Valley

(Jefferson/Knox/Sevier intersection). I have a personal interest in Welsh

settlers in East Tennessee, and I've done a lot of Welsh research over

there. My surnames are at http://www.public.usit.net/mcnamara/surnames.htm

Next?

I am researching HOOD and SWAN in Knox Co. TN (and elsewhere). I

descend from Robert and Elizabeth HOOD of Greenville, Greene Co. TN,

through their son Nathaniel. Robert and Elizabeth had also had a son

named John Bain HOOD, who was a newspaper editor/publisher/printer

in Knox Co. TN and elsewhere.

I have been "doing" genealogy since I was 10 yrs. old (that's when I

transcribed tombstones in our local cemetery) back 33 yrs ago!

I've been professional for about 12 yrs. Until recently, I was a staff

member of CompuServe's four Genealogy Forums, specializing in

helping new researchers with the basic skills needed. My particular

areas of expertise are medieval genealogy and colonial New England

and VA genealogy, but I do have a pretty good working knowledge of

TN genealogy. <G>

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Hello

Hi everyone,

My name is Imogene Givens-Wells and I live in Knoxville where I have resided

most of my life (63 yrs.). I am researching

Givens/Sharp/Shahan/Wilkerson/Pearson/Mize/Chambers/Flynn/Roberts(also my

husband's - Wells/Russell/Justice) in Knox/Union/Sevier/Roane/Loudon/Blount

counties. Have done very well with every line except for the Givens line.

They prove to be my brickwall but I will not give up - they are out there

someplace. My grandfather Thomas W. Givens married grandmother Lydia

Caldonia (Callie)Mize in Sevier county in 1894. I found them in Blount

county in 1900 when my dad was born. In Loudon county in 1910 and

grandmother as a widow in Loudon again in 1920. From there on in I know,

but I don't know which set of Givens Thomas came from, all I can find is

great grandmother with them in the 1900 census listed as "Polly" 63 with

birthday Dec. 1837. Not knowing great grandfather's name or Polly's maiden

name, I am stick!

I am learning genealogy as I go and have no expertise but I sure enjoy

hearing from others and I spend one day a week at McClung's.

If anyone knows anything about my set of Givens I'd be very glad to hear

from you. Our e-mail address is rwellsiwells@excite.com. Thank you.

Imogene

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Hello to All!

I joined this site about 2 months ago. I have been researching my Richey

family for about the past 10 years. I have gathered 9 - 3" binders on

materials for the Washington, Knox, Jefferson, Blount and Giles County and

their early settlers.. William and John Richey both received North Carolina

land grants, along the Limestone River. Abednego Inman was William's

brother-in-law, as was Peter McNamee and Robert Blackburn, all were neighbors

of William and John. The Richeys were also related by marriage to John and

William Kennedy, Michael Woods, and the Trimble family. They all fought the

Revolutionary War from Washington County. William is listed as having likely

been at King's Mountain. William's son Thomas, my 5th gr. grandfather, was

married to Rebecca Kennedy, then Rosanna Trimble, then Jenney Greenaway, and

lastely Elizabeth Brittain. Thomas fought under Sevier in numerous campaigns

against the Indians. Andrew Richey (I believe Thomas's brother) was married

to Phebe Hughes. William's wife was named Margaret. I have no last name at

this time. The Richeys moved on into the Frontier after William died.

Thomas was in Blount, Sumner, Robertson and then Giles. The county

boundaries changed so much during Tennessee's early formation - I learned

they really didn't move that much at all. They eventually moved to Texas,

and they our branch came to California.

Related Families: Kennedy, Hughes, Blackburn, Inman, Trimble, Brittain,

Greenaway, McGaughey, Alexander, Abernathy.

I will be happy to share whatever information I have to others interested in

the relationships with this family. I would also be interested in

information others might have to share. Best Regards Janet Piccola

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Trent-Clark-Sessler

Hi:

Here is my stumper. My great grandmother was Mary Ollie Clark, born May 26,

1868 somewhere in or around Knoxville. Her father was Edwin Rueben Clark,

her mother was Mary Ann Sessler. Her mom, Mary Ann died May 14, 1873 in

Knoxville and is in Old Gray cemetery - Knox Co. Her father married Eliza

Alice Trent, September 30, 1874 in Knoxville. They had one child Ellen.

Edwin died in 1880. Eliza Trent Clark then raised Mary Ollie but Eliza died

in 1884. I have a copy of her will at my website and she mentions her step

daughter Mary Ollie.

I know that Ollie (as she was called) ended up in Nashville where she worked

as an accounting clerk and met my ggrandfather and married in 1894. By the

time she was 16 all her parents had died. I can't seem to locate her at all

until 1894.

Her Clark siblings (Mary Anns children) were:

Richard Walter (called Dickey) - later lived in TX

Maggie Clark who I believe ended up in Kansas, unmarried?

Abbie Bell Clark Hoss whose family line is well documented.

So where did Ollie go? Who did she live with? Did she attend some type of

college? What happened to her brothers and sisters & step sister? So many

unknowns.

If anyone is interested in the will this url should take you there.

Thanks all,

Debi
