Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Hello to lots of new people on the list

My name is Elizabeth and I live in North Carolina very near the South

Carolina line. A small town named Kings Mountain.

I have several names and links I am in search of with the Knoxville area. My

main search right now is my Stinnett line. Looking for anyone who knows of a

James Stinnett who according to the Knoxville City Directory....In 1915 was

living on Bluff Ave, occupation driver..in 1916 He was living at 1984 N.

Broadway..Still a driver...in 1917, he was still on Broadway..Disapears after

that year.

Also have two of the Yearout clan I have not been able to locate. Both lived

in Knoxville around the same time. One was named Calvin Yearout, born about

1870, married to an Mary Pendergraff. Calvin was listed as an ironworker. The

other was Lemuel Yearout born 1865, married to Maggie Norris.

Also searching for the link to Willaim Stinnett who married Harriet Yearout,

1849.

Also have a lot more surnames from Tennessee in general.

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Hello to all new listers !

Hi, my name is Terri Jurca, and I have been

on the Knox Co.list for about eight months now.

My brick wall is, and has been, the name of my

3x great grandfather Brown. He is the father of

John N. Brown who married Sarah Wood in

1825, Knox Co. Sarah is the daughter of Joseph and Sarah McClain Wood ,

who came to Knox Co. from Randolph Co. N.C.~1803, prior to Sarah's birth

in 1805. Dont Know when John came to Knox Co. but suspect his family

was also from Randolph Co. N.C......dont know his siblings' names

either. Sarah and John raised 11 children and possibly 12 , in the

Powell area of north Knox Co.

Dont know that I have an area of expertice except possibly the Brown's

of Knox Co. as I think I have looked at and researched every

Brown family in the county hunting for a clue as to who John"s father

was !!!

Also researching the collateral families of Renfro, McCloud, Hunter,

Tillery, Fraker,

Coffman, and Gilpin.( If anyone Knows anything

about the Samuel Gilpin familiy with daughter

Martha that married John C. Brown, and Son

Armsted that married Sarah J. Coffman , I would love to have information

on them ) Also the Oggs and Gaults. Willing to share information with

anyone working on any of these lines.

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] My Introduction

I am interested in Knox County for only one surname: KNOTT. My husband's

great-grandparents, Jesse and Ellen Knott, immigrated from Forsyth Cty NC

circa 1880. Ellen died bet. 1910 & 1920 in, I believe, Knoxville. Jesse died

in 1932 at his son's home in Abington VA, but his death certificate says he

was buried in Knoxville. We would be forever grateful if someone located

their graves (my husband remembers visiting there with his parents, but he

was only about 10 years old, so he doesn't have a clue where they went). The

funeral home in Abington wasn't any help.

Also, Jesse and Ellen had about nine children; the only line we can trace is

Robert Lee (my husband's paternal grandfather) who moved to Bristol and then

Abington. When Robert Lee died in 1943, his obituary stated that there were

two siblings living: Zeb was in San Francisco and Dollie Bernard was in Ohio.

I live in Prince George County, Virginia; am interested in Prince George,

Surry, and Sussex Counties; also work with Petersburg, Richmond, and

Staunton. I noticed that someone is an expert on German genealogy. I have

just started pursuing the German roots of Frank Prufer, a bookbinder from

Leipsig, who immigrated in 1852 to New York, married Caroline Fielding, and

moved to Staunton, Virginia, to teach bookbinding. If the German expert has

any suggestions, I would appreciate them!

That's all for now. Pattie Arwood

Hi, Imogene! Thanks for telling us about your research. Since you are a

McClung regular, and I know we have people on the list who aren't familiar

with what's there, would you consider writing a few motivational paragraphs?

I joined this list a couple of months ago hoping I would get some tips on

looking for one of my brickwalls.

My husbands gggrandmother was a widow when she married his gggrandfather.

Her name was Sarah Scantling when she married James Guffey, she was a widow

with children. The one child I have found was born 25 Mar 1811 in Knoxville

Tn. Her name was Mary Little Scantling. By 1820 Sarah is a widow and

living in Indiana. Mary Little eventually married Patterson C. Parker, they

moved to Oregon and her tombstone is where it states she was born in

Knoxville. It is also said that Mary's fathers name was Samuel. I have

made many inquiries but the only Samuel found in Tn was later in the 1800's.

Subject: Re: [KnoxCoTN] My Introduction

Hi, I am Jeanne Marie Gebhardt Bornefeld, mostly German, then in the

same amount - American Indian, Scot and French and then English. I have

quite a time trying to get into the minds of the English. That, of

course is the only line I have not been able to continue, Hawkins of

Roane and Anderson and Knox Cos. My people are mostly from the Black

Forest. If I were you I would bring up familysearch.org. This is the

Morman sight. They have microfilmed all over the world where they were

allowed to do so. Sometimes, I understand, they did not microfilm all

the records in a particular locality, so what they list for records may

not be complete, but a very good start. First of all, you need to

understand the history of the particular place you are looking at in

Germany and understand Germany as we see it today has only been in it's

form about a hundred years with no stability we as genealogists

appreciate. There were wars, boundary changes, more wars and more

boundary changes. For instance part of the Rheinland belonged to the

Netherlands, so where would you imagine those people thought they were

from? You get the idea. Now I took the liberty to take a look at your

Frank Prufer. There is a Frank Pruffer, b 13 May 1820 in Leipzig,

Leipzig, Sachsen. The reference is patron sheets. If this looks like a

good prospect, I would order the patron sheets and take a look. After

that order the actual microfilm from Leipzig, Sachsen and reconstruct

the village or town to better understand the interrelationships of the

people living there, usually this is the best way to avoid making a

mistake, and you may be able to go back many generations, depending on

the history and circumstances... Have fun, Jeanne
