McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Knox Welsh Society - new info for several counties on-line Last week, I announced that the Knoxville Welsh Society's Web site was "live" at http://www.korrnet.org/welsh/ If you have East Tennessee connections, whether or not they are specifically Welsh, you may want to check out all the new information that we've added. Despite the fact that the organization's name seems to limit its scope, the Knoxville Welsh Society serves Welsh expatriates and immigrant-descendants in all 35 East Tennessee Counties. For instance, there's a short history of the first Welsh settlement in East Tennessee, which straddled Scott and Morgan Counties. There's a discussion of the Coal Creek War and two mine disasters in Anderson County. There's a bit about the coal mining industry, which was important in much of East Tennessee. There's a discussion of the Welsh settlements and coal mining in Chattanooga and Soddy (Hamilton County). In addition, there's a section on Welsh names and the patronymic naming system. We also have transcribed and uploaded several essays with photos and maps. The regional calendar of events has been updated, and the recommended reading list has new items. If you have information that you'd like to share, please e-mail KWS from the link on the pages. We hope you enjoy your visit with us. Be sure to leave a query on the message board on your way out. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2000 10:25:10 -0500 From: "dgarris" <dgarris@gulftel.com> Subject: [none] UNSUBSCRIBE ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2000 15:00:31 EST From: BillB423@aol.com Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Remove Remove ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jan 2000 09:57:40 -0800 From: "Billie R. The short answer is that she scans other lists and websites for info that might be important to subscribers here. In order to forward it to the list, she has to generate a message. So, it looks like she's hogging the list. That isn't her intention, and we hope you'll understand why it looks that way. Some of you are changing your e-mail addresses and need to unsubscribe/resubscribe. Please don't send those messages to the list. My great grandmother was Mary Jane HICKs that married Isaac SMITH. Isaac later married a GOINS. My family was from Tennessee. I think Isaac may have been born in Bledsoe or surrounding area. My Mary Jane HICKS is a bigger problem. I know that she and Isaac lived in Tn. BUT she moved to Jackson County, Alabama after they divorced (I'm guessing they divorced since he married again).
