ANY information would be appreciated. Searching for information on Luther Herman McGhee, born 1907. His parents were Frank W. McGhee and Maggie Maples. Luther was married for a short time in the late 1920's to Lucile Rutherford. They divorced. Luther may have had a sister by the name of Jessie (McGhee) Llewelyn (not sure). Frank and Luther worked at the Knoxville Table and Chair Company in the late 1920's. In 1949 Frank and Maggie lived on Brown Ave. Luther may have lived in Strawberry Plains in the 1970's, but I'm not sure about that. Does anyone on the list recognize this family? If so, please contact me. Thank you, ...Marjorie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Jan 2000 09:08:55 -0800 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] "I Remember" I found this last night in a Western PA Genealogical Society Journal. I knew y'all would appreciate it. Since it's not mine, I can't give permission to broadcast it beyond this list. But, I think I can share it with y'all without violating any copyright laws. At least I hope so.... Wasn't life wonderful when you didn't have to preface everything with disclaimers? No author. WPGS Quarterly vol. 10, no. 1 (August 1983), p. 32. I REMEMBER The last time I saw Grandmother I was 28 and she was 82. Because she looked to me then exactly as she always had, old and plain, with gray hair pulled up into a knotted bun on the top of her head, I decided to check my memory against chemical history. I found the old picture box beneath the eaves, dragged it out and began sorting through the photographs. As I sat sorting, Grandmother, who had been busy elsewhere in the house, glided into the kitchen, right past me to the dim mirror hung above the sideboard covered with trinkets. She studied her reflection, then with slow grace she pulled away the dark gray net from the knot of hair on her head and began removing long silvery hairpins. A soft cascade of hair fell in ribbed waves to her waist. Her hair was yellow-gray from the top, but halfway down her back, an uneven time line crossed, changing gray to pale brown. She picked up a brush and began to stroke her hair. Suddenly I saw a slender young girl, head tilted by the pull of the brush, electric sparks passing from shining light brown hair, along the bristles and out into the air. She smiled at her reflection as she counted the strokes, her eyes filled with laughter and dreams .... Just as quickly she was gone, but I was mesmerized by Grandmother's efficient hands as she gathered her hair, pulled it together behind her head and coiled it. Silver pins flashed into her hair. She patted the knot, spread a fresh net across ten fingers and lowered it into place. She turned to look at me. "Did you find a picture you like?" "Yes," I answered softly. "Yes I did." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Jan 2000 11:25:55 -0800 From: "Billie R. I am mainly looking for information on my Gr.Gr.Gr. Grandfather Christopher Columbus Mulvany born ca: 1795 and married Zilpha Underwood in Knox County, Tn. on March 9, 1813. She was born ca:1795 I would love to know anything about him especially. When he was born, who his parents were and if he had any siblings. I have quite a bit of later information that I would be happy to share with anyone who is also researching these families Sandy Thompson Bollhorst ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Jan 2000 12:52:05 EST From: Mamt1984@aol.com Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Re: CONNER / MOUNT List Members... I found my Surname "Kelly" in the 1885 Knoxville directory. What do I do now? Is this a book that I can purchase or is it at a library? I am in California so I am not sure what to do with this information or how to obtain more information. Thanks for all your help!
