Subject: [KnoxCoTN] The Internet works!!! Glenmore Mansion theft update....

Typing through happy tears:

A couple of weeks ago, I sent out a message to let people know we'd had a

major theft at Glenmore Mansion in Jefferson City. It's not completely

over yet, but they've arrested someone and recovered the portrait of Mrs.

Hugh Lawson McClung (from the "Knoxville Beauties" series).

The stuff went to Atlanta, as we'd suspected. There's hope for the

recovery of the rest of the items and more arrests.

How did it happen? Apparently, a fine young man printed off multiple

copies of the Web site we put up immediately after the theft and took the

copies around to antique dealers in Atlanta. One of them had a Polaroid of

the mirror that was left for one of his customers to look at. The dealer

recognized the mirror from the photograph.

How did they recover Mrs. McClung's portrait? The stupid thief left it at

the shop. Thank God for honest merchants....

Most of all, thank you to everyone who helped spread the word. Let's

remember this next time Congress or the press starts harping on the

perceived evils of the Internet....

Hey y'all...

We're getting some matches on look-ups on the 1885 Knoxville City Directory.

Don't forget to check out the "Guides to Street and Avenues" section.

There's a description of most streets (and some alleys), with the name of

intersecting streets. The numbers beside those secondary streets are the

house numbers appearing on the northwest corner of that intersection.

Don't be shy, now -- people are finding lost kin-folks on the list ... just

throw your names out there! <smile>.

If you'd like a look-up in the 1885 city directory, give me a holler

(knoxcotn@wdbj.net)

Thanks!

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Knox County history w/East TN regional info on-line

The Knox County TNGenWeb site has a new history on-line! It's Dr. J. G. M.

Ramsey's history of Lebanon-in-the-Forks Presbyterian Church, which was

founded in 1791 as the first organized church in Knox County. The

page contains a lot of regional history about the settlement of central

East Tennessee and the migration of Presbyterians from upper East Tennessee

into this area.

You're invited to read it at http://www.knoxcotn.org/churches/lebanon.html

Looking to locate a link to my direct Stinnett line. James Stinnett was

listed in Knox County early 1900's as a driver. He seems to have dissappeared

after 1917. If anyone has this James Stinnett in their data please reply.

More info to share.

Okay, I'll throw my names out there. This is my brick wall, since I cannot

travel to Knox County and guess what? It's my own grandfather!!!

I have posted this everywhere...I am searching for the family of Arthur

Walter BOOHER who married Bessie Lee HUM{HREY in Knoxville Jan. 31, 1920.

James BOOHER signed the bond for the license. It is said that Arthur's

parents were James BOOHER and Juanita McDANIEL. I have found a marriage

between a James BOOHER and Neata McDONALD and would guess that likely this

is them. John SWATZELL signed the bond.

Art BOOHER was born Feb. 27, 1903 in Tennessee and died October 26, 1968 in

Indianapolis, IN. James BOOHER is said to have remarried after Juanita died

and had more children. The new wife may have been Aggie, who was alive at

the time of Art BOOHER's death.

Can anyone connect with any of these names?

Lian

I am also researching Maberry's from TN, the Overton/Clay county area to be

exact. I have a Tennessee Maberry married to a Charley Morgan. I think her

fathers name was Thomas, but please note that my Maberry's are spelled

differently than yours, which may or may not mean anything! If any of this

rings a bell, please let me know.
