Hi all!

Looking for any information about Willis Green Montgomery, who appears on

the 1850 Smith County census with his wife Elizabeth M. Carpenter and two

young daughters. Willis & Elizabeth were married in September of 1844 in

Lincoln County, KY. They had at least 3 more children after 1850:

1) Lindsay Powell Carpenter Montgomery (my g-grandfather), born in 1853 in

Smith County

2) Margaret Leana Francis Montgomery, born in 1854 in Nashville, Davidson

County, TN

3) Willis G. Montgomery, born in 1863 in Knox County, TN (presumed to be a

"junior"). Willis Jr.'s obituary (from 1942), states that his father died

just 2

months before Willis Jr. was born. That would put Willis Sr.'s death

around August or September of 1863, presumably somewhere around Knox County,

TN. But we have no information about how he died and where he's buried.

Nor do we know anything about his parents or siblings.

Information about Lindsay's, Margaret's, and Willis Jr.'s descendants can be

reviewed from my website at:

http://www.montbarc.com

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you!

Marilyn Montgomery

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Updates to Knox County TNGenWeb site

The Knox County TNGenWeb site continues to add material (as you'd expect

<g>). Today, the Ethnic Resources section opened at

http://www.knoxcotn.org/ethnic/, with these pages:

Links to Black, Indian, and Melungeon Resources

(recommendations for additional links requested!)

Black Newspapers

Black Patients and Knoxville Hospitals

Holdings of Beck Cultural Center

The Eighth of August

Evidences of Freedom

Black History Quiz

Also, the first (of hopefully many) school rosters is available:

Central High School Class of 1922 at http://www.knoxcotn.org/chs1922.html

In the next few days, you'll see a roster of Knoxville area dairies, a an

interesting bit of political history, a directory of businesses and

businessmen in 1860-61, more biographies, and a "who's who" of famous Knox

Countians -- among other items!

We look forward to your visits. To stay up on what's new at our site,

bookmark our updates page at http://www.knoxcotn.org/updates/index.html

and check it often!
