It's near Mascot and is a tributary of the Holston River. Maybe they were kin to the Brown's Gap Browns? Lyons Creek is closer to Brown's Gap than it is to Powell/Halls. Here's my favorite map location site: http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html At 07:01 PM 4/16/00 -0400, Terri Jurca wrote: >Can someone please help me locate Lyons >Creek ?? Does anyone have any information on him? The name Lafayette appears as a middle name several times in my line from this area but I have not been able to find any other reference to him. Thanks in advance, Carol Brown Key ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2000 23:05:12 EDT From: Werhere42@aol.com Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Racial crimes, Knoxville Does anyone have any info on racial crimes committed in Knoxville about 1924? There was a man killed on the bus (trolley?) in Knoxville, and several killed on a wall in Knoxville. Terrible crimes, BUT still want details if possible http://hometown.aol.com/werhere42/myhomepage/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2000 22:33:07 -0500 From: Dean Powell <zmpowell@horizon.hit.net> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] John and Syloand Turner, 1850 Knox Co., TN John Turner of Knox Co., TN was my ggg grandfather. On 1850 Knox Co., TN census his wife's name is listed as Syloand. A John Turner, married Vany Hopper, license dated 24 Aug., 1806 in Grainger Co., TN. Living next door to them were Milton Neil, Syloand, and children, John W. and Mary M. This was John's daughter, Sylvania (Vania/Vaney) and her husband, James Milton Neal. This family migrated to Texas Co., MO. Sarah Turner married Dempsey Fielden 18 Jan, 1842 in Knox Co., TN. According to Sarah's death certificate, her father was John Turner. One of her children's death certificates indicated Sarah was born in Anderson Co., TN. (Dempsey and Sarah are my gg grandparents.) This family also migrated to Texas Co., MO. John Turner was on the 1830 Anderson Co., TN census but by 1840 moved to Racoon Valley, Knox Co., TN. Gabriel Turner, 20-30 also followed him there. Gabriel signed marriage bond for Sarah Turner and Dempsey Fielden leading us to believe that he was a brother of Sarah and Sylvania. Gabriel also signed as witness to a deed for his father, John Turner. George Petree was named administrator 1855 for John Turner, Jr when he died. Rebecca, John's wife, is shown on TN marriages as Rebecca Pittner but on actual marriage license it is Petree. Rebecca Turner is mentioned in John Petree will, 1849 Knox Co., TN court session. John and Rebecca were married 18 Jan., 1841. The sale for John Turner, Jr shows James Milton Neal as a buyer and there was an outstanding note for Gabriel Turner. This leads us to believe that John Turner, Jr is also a son of John Turner who is living with wife Syloand. George Petree married Cynthia Turner 23 Dec., 1838 Knox Co., TN. We believe that Cynthia is a daughter of John Turner. George and Cynthia named a daughter Laveny, also listed Vany according to different years of census. Zilpha Turner married James Fielden 26 Sept., 1845. James S. Fielden, brother of Dempsey Fielden who married Sarah Turner, signed bond with him. Zilpha died 21 July., 1912 in Ohio Co., KY. On death certificate her father is shown as James but believe it may have been incorrect and should have been John, mother was ? Hopper. 1830 census shows that John Turner had at least 9 children if not more. Mercey is living at home on 1850 Knox Co., TN census, but we have never been able to find her after that. Possible children of John Turner: Gabriel born c/a 1812, Mercey born c/a 1814, Cynthia born c/a 1818, Sarah born 1822, John, Jr. born c/a 1823, Sylvania born c/a 1826, Zilpha born c/a 1827. These ages based on 1850 census. There could be more children. Marguerette ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Apr 2000 07:42:49 -0700 From: "Billie R. Beck Cultural Center (link from our Ethnic page at http://www.knoxcotn.org/ethnic/) is probably your best resource.

If you live in Tennessee, you'll probably want this: 1-877-872-7030 This is the number you call to get yourself off the telemarketer lists.... If you're registered, calling you is illegal. It takes 60 days from the end of the current month for it to be effective. I understand you can also register on-line someplace, but I haven't found it yet. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Apr 2000 07:39:45 -0700 From: "Billie R.
