I just did this on a referral from friend Nicki -- it came with a valid

endorsement from the person who sent it to her. Sadly, they can only ship

to US addresses (no APO/FPO either). They ask you to put in your credit

card number for the $1 charge, but it looks like a good deal...

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] You're invited: Knoxville get-together in May

We're having a gathering of list members who are registered at the East

Tennessee Historical Society conference* Memorial Day weekend in Knoxville,

and you're invited!

We've squeezed it in between the last lecture and supper on Friday -- 5

p.m. to 7 p.m. This is not going to be a fancy "do." It will, however,

give us all a chance to get to know the person behind the e-mail messages.

I've noted in the program that the public is invited -- it will hopefully

generate more interest in our list!

I don't have a finalized place yet, but I will post a message to the list

prior to the event, so you can plan on it. It will also appear in the program.

I already know a handful of you are coming. What I'd like to do is start

making a headcount so we can be sure we've got enough pretzels and kool-aid

<vbg>.

So, if you're planning to attend the ETHS workshop and might drop by our

get-together, please respond to me by personal e-mail sometime before May

20. Be sure to put ETHS workshop in the subject line, so I'll know that's

what you're writing about (other mail sometimes gets lost in my in-box

filters).

And, several of my good friends are going to share vendor tables at the

event -- I hope you'll come see us. We should have a whole wall of

friendly folks with lots to offer. I'm doing a "Genealogy Yard Sale" type

of thing, with a varied collection of books, pictures, postcards, ephemera,

old bottles, and lots of other stuff I've collected over the years that

might be connected to your relatives and ancestors who lived here. Our

invaluable Knox County Cemetery Historian, Robert McGinnis, will be there

with transcripts available, so you can purchase printouts right on the

spot! Charles Reeves, the world's greatest genealogy cartographer, will be

on-hand to sell you amazing maps and talk to you about his excellent and

inexpensive personalized maps that make great additions to your printed

family histories. Shelia Hunt, an amazing genealogist, will have tons of

books and other items available. Troy Keesee, owner of Claxton Classics

Books and an expert on Melungeon research, will have shelves and shelves of

printed histories for you to browse through. And that's just OUR

group! Who knows what the other vendors will have???

Conference info is at http://www.east-tennessee-history.org/

- -----------------------------------------------

*This has also been called the First Families Reunion, but that's only one

segment of the entire conference. George Schweitzer and numerous other

"name" speakers will be presenting some pretty interesting lectures over

the weekend.
