Subject: [KnoxCoTN] East TN Civil War maps and prints

I saw some wonderful stuff at the ETHS conference this weekend, and I feel

compelled to pass the word along.

Master cartographer and fellow genealogist Charles Reeves has created some

awesome prints from old maps, Harper's Weekly magazine covers, and other

resources. If you''ve got serious CW interests, get in touch with Charles

at http://user.icx.net/~reevesca

He's got some especially gorgeous stuff for Knoxville/Knox County and

Chattanooga. The price is tremendously cheap for what you get, and the

quality is astounding. They make great gifts, too.

I have no financial interest in this -- I'm just interested in keeping

Charles doing more maps and prints! <vbg>

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Old roads and county formations maps

How in the world can we do Tennessee genealogy research without a map

showing early roads and county formations/boundaries? We can't....

Charles Reeves, master cartographer and genealogist, created some fantastic

maps of these two topics and had them on sale at the ETHS conference in

Knoxville this weekend. I just knew a few thousand people who didn't get

to attend the conference would love to own one of the maps. So, I'm

spreading the word.

One shows early roads from NC and VA into TN and KY. The other shows

county boundaries and formations from 1777 through approximately

1796. This one is especially fabulous, because of the incredible research

that went into it. I've collected East TN maps for a long time, and this

one just took the prominent spot in my collection.

They are poster-sized, full-color, printed on heavy paper, and amazingly

detailed. The price is incredible -- $10 each printed on white poster

paper and $15 each printed on textured/cream-colored paper, plus $3.50

mailing (in a tube, professionally packaged).

Get in touch with Charles before he sells

out! http://user.icx.net/~reevesca/ -- His entire collection (including

these two items) isn't currently listed on his website. So, ask about

other things you're interested in!

BTW -- I have no financial interest in Charles' work. I'm just a huge fan.

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Boy, did we have fun????

The ETHS conference was a lot of fun -- even with the hectic pace and the

stormy weather that kept popping its head up.

Getting together and getting to know some of our list members was a great

treat for me. I learned that our Knox County Cemetery Historian, Robert

McGinnis, has a huge on-line fan club. Robert's not just a Knox County

expert, either, as many discovered through talking to him. He's probably

forgotten more East Tennessee history than I could ever learn if I studied

daily for the rest of my life.

As soon as I unearth my camera, I'll put up a webpage with photos and some

details so those of you who couldn't join us can still enjoy a small part

of the experience.

And, for those who've been wondering what happened to all the stuff our

volunteers have been transcribing, it will be on-line shortly. I spent the

past 10 days dealing with my first-ever outbreak (with a vengeance) of

poison ivy and getting ready for the conference. Now, for the first time

in about 5 months, I can relax and do FUN things!

Rose-Anne Cunningham, who is the Coordinator of the Knox County TNGenWeb

project (I just help with the list and transcribing), lost her dear Aunt

Lee last week. Leona Cunningham Howard Sargent was 105, born March 25,

1895, at the Tennessee Rolling Mill in Lyon County, KY, the youngest child

of Charles W. Cunningham and Rosanah Williams. Aunt Lee was a tremendous

blessing to Rose-Anne's genealogical research. She was also a fantastic

resource to others researching the "Land Between the Lakes" area of western

Kentucky.

Hi! They're at the Knox County Archives (see

web.utk.edu/~kizzer/ethisctr/), but most are on film or have been transcribed.
