---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 19:00:08 -0500 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Smiths, Cokers, Brabsons, and others My sister, Barbara, sent me this new information with a request that I throw it out to the lists for consideration. The bastardy bonds she's talking about are the Henry L. and Martha Smith ones that I wrote about earlier. Isn't it great when you can get a vicarious thrill off a genealogy newbie's excitement? =========================================== Smith seekers................... Last night I was studying over my notes and census information and found a possibility. My husbands gr gr grandmother had 3 illegitimate babies. She lived next door to her sister Jane who had three illegitimate children herself. Anyway, a Fanie Coker who was 87 lived in the house with Jane. There is listed under Fanie Coker two daughters named Sarah and Martha. Sarah was single and 50 years old, Martha was single and 46. There was also listed two grandsons and a granddaughter. Well, we assumed these also were Cokers, then I thought....what if Fanie was a Smith first and then married a Coker. That would explain why Jane Smith lived with her and Eliza lived next to her. Martha and Sarah would be Smiths instead of Cokers. Chances are since Fanie was 87 she was married more than once. Well, one of the grandchilren who lived in the house was 12. The age the child that the bastardy bonds were done on would have been in 1880. Think we may be on to something. If I come across any info regarding a Martha Brabson, I will forward it to you. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] 1941 Bicentennial Program CD's status A quick note to everyone who requested one of these -- I had a couple of family crises in the past few days that pulled me away from being able to focus on things like cutting CD's. I apologize for the delay and hope to get them all done tomorrow (I have to do them one at a time, and they take 30 minutes each!). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 12:33:08 -0500 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] A little commercial for Glenmore Mansion Jefferson County's Glenmore Chapter of the Association for Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities owns and maintains Glenmore Mansion, the former home of John Roper Branner's family and later the Milton Jarnigan family in Jefferson City. You can read about the house and take a virtual tour at http://www.korrnet.org/glenmore/ Glenmore is in the midst of a restoration project that has a price tag of a couple hundred thousand dollars. The group still needs to raise over $90,000. One of the fund-raising projects Glenmore is undertaking is selling trees from the National Arbor Day Foundation (http://www.arborday.org/). Each of the trees costs just $3.50 each, each is 2-3 feet tall and guaranteed to grow, and the shipping cost is just $3.50 whether you purchase one or one hundred. The trees are shipped directly to your home from the NADF. Glenmore receives $1.25 for each tree purchased through our fundraising campaign. The available trees are red maple, sugar maple, black walnut (can't ship to NM or TX), redbud, tuliptree, weeping willow, white dogwood, and red oak (can't ship to FL, OR, or LA). You can see the trees at http://www.arborday.org/trees/treesort.cfm -- but you have to purchase them through Glenmore for it to get the credit. And, orders must be placed by April 10. If you'd like to order trees, please e-mail Janet McLane (alandermclane@netzero.net). She will be happy to assist you. And future generations of visitors to Glenmore will thank you. Please feel free to forward this message to any individual or mailing list where you feel it is appropriate. Note: None of the trees can't be shipped to Alaska, Arizona, California, or Hawaii. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 12:37:59 -0500 From: "Billie R. That should read None of the trees CAN be shipped to Alaska, Arizona, California, or Hawaii. Sorry 'bout that. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 16:46:33 -0500 From: "Billie R.
