Hello, I am hopeing someone can help, I am tracing my Chism family members, I have Elisha Chism and Elisha Jr. in Grainger county, TN. 1799 on the tax list. Also Wenny Chism , Elisha's wife was attending church the Spring Creek Baptist church from 1803 to 1805, Elijah Chism and his wife Lucy Clairborne Chism were also attending, they were members from 1803 to 1807, but Wenny was dismissed by letter in 1805, I don't know if Wenny was the wife of Elisa or Elisha JR. Wenny was born 1786, North Carolina, some researchers say her last name was Russell, can anyone shed some light on this family? So far it looks as if he belongs to the John Chisum line of Amelia county, Va. But one thing that struck me was Igntatious and Dennis Chisholme were in Lawrence county, Ark. 1818, My Elisha was there as well, in fact he died in 1827, I was told earlier that Ignatious never migrated to Oklahoma with his son Jesse? Does anyone happen to know about this? Thanks Vickie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2001 09:37:01 -0500 From: "Billie R. Vickie -- I haven't studied the family, but I know they were in Hawkins County before 1800 (and I believe, later, Hamblen). There was a Chisholm's Tavern someplace. The surname was spelled a variety of ways in Hawkins County. I'm doing this from rusty memory...someone else probably knows more about it.

McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Contents of a home circa 1870 I lost my mind the other night <g> at an auction and bought something we're calling a "diorama." It's a group of hand-wrought miniature buildings on a 6 foot square board covered in fake grass. It's probably 1" to 1' scale (I've suddenly had to get educated on miniatures). There's a large double cabin with dogtrot, a "mother-in-law" cabin (smaller one) behind it, a smoke house or storage house with a root cellar dug out under it (no wood floor), and an out house. I donated it to the Sevier County Heritage Museum (http://www.korrnet.org/schm/ -- site still under construction!). Patsy Bradford (director) and I talked about the period in which we'd like to decorate the display. We settled on 1870ish Sevier County, because there's enough information available to identify what would've been in a house and surrounding area at that time. So....now comes the research phase. Does anyone among our list members have an estate inventory or a description of family home life for that period in Sevier County (or even Blount, Jefferson, Cocke, or Knox near the line...not city dwellers <g>)? If so, would you contact me personally so I can arrange to get a copy? Oh -- I think the reason I was drawn to this display is that my Acuff ancestors lived in a double cabin with dogtrot on the Jefferson/Sevier County line from about 1855 to about 1900. I only have a brief description of it, though! Jackie and Dawn Peters, who wrote this note, work very hard with very little local support. If you look at my transcription of Tennessee's cemetery laws at http://web.utk.edu/~kizzer/genehist/research/cemetery.htm you'll find that they probably are wanting to move the graveyard. The problem is, though, that often old family graveyards are bigger than people think. A hearing in June gives us plenty of time to find the WEBB, JOHNSON, and other descendants...so please help spread the word! Wonder if anyone's done a title search...

This notice is from the Johnson City Press, March 19, 2001. The people are probably petitioning the court for permission to remove these graves from this property. These were at one time marked graves with inscribed tombstones which are not there now. There may be some people by the last name of WEBB buried here. If anyone has relatives or knows of descendants of the people buried in this cemetery now is the time to come forward.
