After spending a day with a cousin at the TN State Library - -- and she found absolutely nothing on any of her TN lines -- we can appreciate this. You should go there at least once a week! http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/whatsnew.htm ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Apr 2001 12:45:07 -0400 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Delayed Birth Certificates in Tennessee About two weeks ago, some new microfilm arrived at the TN State Library and Archives. It's the delayed birth certificates -- the ones for people who were born before 1914, when TN started requiring them (and some who didn't have one on file for whatever reason, even if they were born after that date). I didn't find anything on the web site about this group of records, but I have to tell you it's worth checking. I didn't find my grandfather, durn it, but I did copy all the Acuffs. One was a birth in 1868! Be sure you check this group next time you're in Nashville -- or write to reference@mail.state.tn.us to inquire what it will cost to get a printout of your surname's soundex code (that's how they're organized). ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Apr 2001 14:30:35 EDT From: Tenc@aol.com Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Knox Co TN area phone directories: Goin Exchange - --part1_f.12122af9.27f8cdcb_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit This is from the June 1916 directory of the Peoples Telephone and Telegraph Company, Knox Co and surrounding areas.
