Just a short note to tell you that my wonderful Uncle, Herbert Glenn Craig,

passed away about an hour ago. He was the son of Harvey Bernard Craig, Sr.

and Ida Belle Johnson Craig. Your prayers for the family would be greatly

appreciated. Nina

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Did your ancestors work for Southern Railways in the Knoxville area?

If so, please check out the Knox County, TNGenWeb presentation of:

Southern Railway Road and Yard Seniority List and Addresses (April, 1925)

http://www.knoxcotn.org/directories/southernRR/index.html

Billie added a neat search engine to the database of names (1,118 in all).

The database contains the person's name, address, job description and

seniority (?hire) date -- some of these go back to 1885! Those of you with

railroad kin in Middlesboro, KY -- please check this database -- there are

several folks from that area listed in the book We've also included a list

of local Knoxville advertisers, poems written by "the boys", etc. Give it a

whirl! ;-)

Also -- please dig around in your old trunks, etc -- we'd love to find more

Seniority lists (pre-1950) covering the Knoxville area. We've had a great

response from putting this little book online <g>.

As always, thanks for your support!

The following web site information was on another list and it contains many

surnames of interest, including Walker, Moore, Houston, Cowan, etc.

It also contains a tid bit of interest to the Texas researchers. It places

Assa Walker in Tennessee. The Fort Southwest Point where the records were

originated is located at the bluff high above the junction of the Tennessee

and Clinch Rivers at Kingston, Roane County, TN.

The John Walker mentioned by Gideon Morgan in this data is more than likely

the same John Walker who lived on the Emory River and is of the Wigton-Walker

family from Rockbridge County, VA. Gideon Morgan moved to Kingston. He was a

prominent resident of Kingston during this time period. He owned a large brick

house across the street from the still standing historic Roane County Court

House and at the corner of the

roads to Kentucky and Cumberland. I grew up half block away from this house

and the old court house.

It is a very large document.

Is anyone working on the Campbell family in either county? I'm trying to

track down info about a man named Ferrell Campbell, who was born in

1898. I'm reckoning he's passed on, but he was living in Knoxville in 1977.

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] 1850 census lookup

Does anyone have the 1850 Knox County census that could look up someone

for me?

His name was Campbell Sharp Kelly (or Kelley). His Civil War pension

says he was born Jan. 29, 1841 in Knox County. After Union County was

formed, he lived in that area, around Luttrell.

I would appreciate knowing his family information, if someone can find

him. Thank you for your help.
