Subject: [KnoxCoTN] My 15 nanoseconds of "fame"

If you watched the Channel 10 news in Knoxville Sunday night at 11, you

heard our friend, Bruce Davies, lead off and close the segment on the

Gatlinburg Highland Games. Wasn't he wonderful? If you were listening

closely, you heard a soprano note that lasted about 15 nanoseconds past

Bruce's baritone hold near the end of the segment -- that would be me...<g>

If you missed him this year, you've got a chance at the Flora MacDonald

Highland Games in North Carolina in October, plus we're hoping to have him

back in Knoxville sometime the first week of October before he goes off to

be "Artist in Residence" at the University of Iowa for a couple of

weeks. Once you hear Bruce sing, you'll be a fan for

life... http://www.brucedavies.com

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] USGenWeb founder has died

Jeff Murphy, the founder of the KYGenWeb project that ultimately evolved

into the USGenWeb project, has passed away.

Please take a moment to remember Jeff, since the "official" USGenWeb

history page at http://www.usgenweb.org/about/history.html doesn't even

mention his name...

A more-detailed history of the project (which does memorialize Jeff's

involvement) can be found at http://www.radix.net/~merope/history/chapter2.htm

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Several have asked about Jeff Murphy

Several have inquired about how to send condolences to the family of Jeff

Murphy, who was the founder of the USGenWeb project, since I posted the

notice of his untimely passing (he was just 54 and left two pre-school-age

children) earlier today.

I don't know if Jeff's wife, Debbie, has separate e-mail. Their mailing

address as far as we know is still 735 NW 8th, Redmond, OR 97756.

Here are some quick suggestions for charitable donations. These causes

were near to Jeff's heart:

- -- Transcribe a biography and donate it to the KY Biographies or US

Biographies projects.

http://members.tripod.com/~debmurray/usbios/usbiog.html

http://www.starbase21.com/kybiog/

- -- Donate money toward historical preservation in Kentucky, especially

Muhlenberg County.

- -- Donate a book or other item not already in their catalogue to the LDS

Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

Alternatively, choose a historical/genealogical cause that you support and

donate money, time, or a book / periodical subscription / item of general

interest to it in Jeff's name.

Hi y'all,

For those who might be interested in transcribing a biography (as Billie
