Ann -- have you contacted Don Mabry at Mississippi State? He runs the

astounding Historical Text Archive: http://historicaltextarchive.com/ and

has a BUNCH of Mabry family info.

From: "Paula Griffin" <dwec@charlotte.infi.net>

My grandfather was from Knox County - he married an Alabama girl he met at

college in South Carolina, and they ended up living in Georgia.

His name was Paul James Clapp - he was born in 1909 and died in an accident

in 1953.

His parents were Jesse Clapp and Hattie Estelle Booker.

His grandparents were James Maynard Clapp and Edie (Edith, Eda) Angeline

Hankins; and Lee Roy Booker and Alice Kelly.

I have posted an obituary for James Maynard Clapp, and someday when I get a

chance, I will post his Union pension papers. I also have Confederate

pension papers for Alice Kelly's father, Campbell Kelly.

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Kimsey, Brewer, Guinn in Knox Co.

I just love roll calls! The names I'm researching in Knox Co. are

Kimsey, Brewer and Guinn. The Kimseys I've got a lock on, the problem

is my Guinn/Brewer line.

My gg-grandmother was Margaret Elizabeth (Maggie) Guinn. She owned a

boarding house, (I believe on Broad St.) in the early 1900s, and raised

her three daughters there. Here's my problem: Maggie was born a Brewer

in Hancock Co. and first married a Cope. That husband was shot and

killed (not by Maggie) and she married Joseph Lindsay Guinn. They

divorced, or at least permanently separated, presumably because he was a

drinker.

Problem I'm having, is I can't find any marriage or divorce papers. The

Hancock Co. courthouse burned in 1939, so there's no help from that

source. I've had someone check the state archives to no avail, but I'm

not sure how thorough they were. I suspect that Maggie and Joe lived

in Knoxville prior to the divorce, and that Maggie stayed on. Their

children were Alonzo, who died around age 6-7, Roberta Myrtle, and my

grandmother, Viola Mae Guinn. Viola Mae married Joe Kimsey, who was

Knoxville's chief of police for many years. Maggie also had another

daughter, Mattie, by Harmon Cope, her first husband.

Anyone have any ideas on where I might search for documentation? It's

truly frustrating to know the facts, but not be able to document them

for ancestors this recent. Help!!!!!!!

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] [KNOX CO]My Roll Call

It's been a while, so I thought I'd chime in with my lines...

Researching James Booher (aka James Brewer) b. 1872 and Juanita McDaniel

Booher (aka Neata McDonald, Nettie Brewer) in Knox County and McDaniels in

Knox and Loudon Counties. James Booher, according to family lore is said to

have been from the Paint Rock area (Roane County). Neata is apparently the

sister of Delia (w/o Perry R) Hall and daughter of Jennie McDaniel, shown on

Hannah Street in 1900 Knox County Census and later shown buried at Mt. Zion

Cemetery in Loudon. Neat also had a brother Charles Jackson McDaniel(s),

who is buried next to his second wife, Selena Shugart, at Lynhurst Cemetary

in Knoxville.

This James Booher, from what I have been able to tell is not connected to

the Boohers of East Knoxville. My only other clue is that a John Swatzell

signed the marriage license for my ggrandparents. John Swatzell's family

was from Roane County. (I can find him!)

Any connections or help is greatfully appreciated.

Hello Everone,

My name is George Knox (geknox@peoplescom.net) and I was born and raised =

in the Lone Star State. I graduated from Mineola High School, Mineola, =

Texas in 1950. I graduated from East Texas State University (now Texas =

A & M - Commerce) with a BS in 1954 and spent 2 years in the USAF, the =

first 19 months as an airframe repairman, and the last 5 month as =

Adjutant, 44 th HQ Sqdn, 44th Medium Bomb Wing, LCAFB, La. Upon =

discharge I was employed by General Electric in Tyler, Texas, gaining my =

MEd from East Texas State in 1961.=20

I then worked as Materials Manager with Victor Equipment Company, =

Chrysler Boat Corporation, and Rockwell Mfg Company. The last years =

before I retired were spent designing, manufacturing, and maintenaning =

of full service, automatic, and hand car wash systems. In 1998 my wife =

and I retired to the county seat of our home county, Quitman, Wood =

County, Texas.

I have two aunts (my Dad's sisters who are 88 and 86) who are the only =

living relatives on both sides of my parents' families who retire here =

about a year ago and they have copies of pages of family Bibles and some =

genealogy from a cousin Bert O'Neal which started my quest for our =

roots. I have been at it for about 6 months. My Dad and his family are =

from Concord, Tennessee as well as his mother's family. She is Fannie =

Brown, daughter of Samuel Pride Brown and Laura Rodgers. Also in our =

line are Rankin, Low, Mitchell, Duncan. =20

If I might be of some help with those lines, I will provide all that I =

have, and would appreciate all help as I have the Brown line only to the =

names of John and Mary as the parents of Samuel Pride.
