I've enjoyed seeing all the activity this "roll call" gas generated. I =

think I'll jump in, too. I have worked in Information Systems for some =

28 years. For the past 4 or 5 years, genealogy has been my =

stress-relief (it doesn't always work <g>). My Knoxville connection is =

my wife's family. Surnames I am researching are Keener, Odam, =

McClanahan, Rogers, Lanter, Newcomb, Raby, & Wallace. I am also trying =

to gather information on the Collins family that owned or ran the =

Knoxville Cotton Mill in the early 1920's. And finally, I am trying to =

find evidence to support the family "stories" of strong Cherokee or =

other Native American ancestry, which has been one dead-end after =

another.

Thanks,

Bill

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Hay!

My name is Pat Graves Reagan. I was

born in Greensboro, North Carolina. We

moved to Knoxville Tennessee when I was

in the 7th grade in the early 50”s. I went

to Mt. Olive Grammar School, then Young

High School. I met my husband in high

school and we got married in 1959.

In 1964 Vons job brought us to Neenah,

Wisconsin. At the time I thought it was

the end of the world. Our town was on

one pole saying you are now entering and

leaving on the same sign.. My parents

were divorced so I did not get to know

my Fathers side of the family.. At the

young age of 20 I really did not care.

Now I two wished I lived outside of the

library in Knox County.

I am the last Graves on the direct line

of 12 generations and have spent most of

my time looking for the female lines of

the Graves. My grandmother was born in

1873 Union County and my Grandfather

was born in 1863. The only place I can go

is backward. . It is very hard when

you do not have the access to information.

On my grandmothers side it is the

Kitts, Monroe, Severs. Severs is the one

that I get hung up on. I do not know if

she is a Severs or Sevier . I do know

that she was living with the

Meltbargers in the 1850 Knox County

census my Grandfather side I have the

Graves. His mother was Talitha Fraker.

I have that one worked out. Frakers,

Gilliam, Halls,. I have the Frakers and

the Gilliams worked out , I guess you

can say the Halls to. As with everyone

else my hang up is with the wife line. I

am looking for Mary “Polly” Nelson who

married Zackarah Hall. Zackariah

Hall was the son of Thomas Hall and

lived where the old Avondale farm is or

was located. He was born 29 December

1791 in Orange County North Carolina. He

married Mary “Polly” Nelson 8 August 1817.

I found a old will of William Nelson

who died in 1797. His wife was named

Mary “Polly “ Nelson. I cannot find any

more information. I believe they are

related If any one would have

information would appreciate it. Most of

the sights that I have do not have this

William listed. Billie suggested that

William was the lawyer that defended

Andrew Johnson in the Impeachment

trial but I have had no luck there

either..

There is a John Nelson that lives close

by on the census , Does anyone have the

children name . The one in the 1830

census.

It is good to be home again if only in my

mind.

As Always

Pat

Hi Knox County List...

The Knox County lines that I am currently researching are:

Franklin Baker AULT who was married to Martha Jane MOODY in 1869.

Their daughter Mary Ellis "Ella" AULT was my great-grandmother.

"Ella" married Charlie RUTHERFORD, son of Prior RUTHERFORD and Julia

HENDERLIGHT.

"Ella" AULT and Charlie RUTHERFORD had a daughter by the name of

Lucile Blanch RUTHERFORD (my grandmother).

Lucile married Luther Herman "Luke" McGHEE, the son of

William Frank McGHEE and Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" MAPLES.

I would appreciate any help on any of these lines.

Thanks.....Marjorie

HI- I'm Joyce Escue Culver, born & raided in Franklin Co, IL-Southern IL, and

live in Denver, CO now. I spent 8 yrs as a real estate broker, and a couple

of years as a medical transcriptionist. I'm 58, retired on a medical

disability with lung disease. My genealogy keeps my brain from rusting (I

hope) :)

I'm researching Margaret Smith, daughter of Alexander Smith & Catherine

Lawry. I'm still looking for Margaret's death date and buriel place. She

married William Escue in 1833 in Sumner Co, but was born in Knox Co.
