Opened in November, the Veterans Memorial Museum in Branson, Mo., uses sculpture, murals, historical artifacts, objects d' art and other war memorabilia to commemorate those who fought in World Wars I and II, as well as the Korean, Vietnam and Gulf wars. More than 400,000 names of soldiers killed during World War II are listed on the museum's walls, along with those killed in Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and other 20th-century conflicts. For more information about the museum, see http://www.veteransmemorialbranson.com/ or call (417) 336-2300. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2001 07:23:43 -0500 From: "Billie R. The court documents are being preserved as part of a "digital partnership" among the Washington University Libraries, the Missouri State Archives and the St. Louis Circuit Clerk. The project involves restoring and indexing 4 million pages of court files relating to slavery up to 1875. Please take a moment to send a note to the students and forward this on to others. It will be interesting to follow their results! If all the genealogists I'm sending this to write an encouraging note, perhaps their next class project will be something relevant to local history/genealogy that will help others out...and get the yung'uns interested in a lifetime hobby! =================================================== Hi! We are fifty 6th grade students at Taylorsville Elementary School in Taylorsville, North Carolina the county seat of Alexander County. We are located in the foothills of the Brushy Mountains and are often called "Apple City". We have decided, after seeing this done at another school, to map an e-mail project. We are curious to see where in the world our e-mail will travel via the Internet, between the period of December 13, 2000 and April 1, 2001. This is not a pen pal project, so we will not write you back (unless you request a verification). We would like your help. If you receive this e-mail, we ask that you: 1. E-mail us back at taylab@twave.net and tell us your city/state/location so we can plot it on our map. 2. Forward this e-mail to everyone you know so that they can send it on to everyone they know (and so on) to help us reach even more people. (We won't mind receiving repeats, so send it on to everyone. We're tracking the number of responses we receive as well, and will be making a graph in our computer lab classes using the numbers received by state.) We will post our results on our school's web site after our deadline so that you can see how we did. Our site can be accessed through http://www.alexander.k12.nc.us/tay/map.html. With your help we can make this a very fun and exciting learning experience. PLEASE help us. Thank you for any help you can give.
