Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Roll Call

Hi, my name is Jeanne Marie Bornefeld. I am looking for the family of

Aaron Hawkins, b 1793 in Tn. Enlisted at Isaac Lewis ' house in Anderson

Co., in the 1812 War, in 1814. Served under Bunch, Berry and Breden at

Fort Strother on the Coosa River in St. Clair County, Alabama. He served

on the jury in Anderson Co. along with Edward and Matthew Hawkins.

Matthew was in Knox. Co. at it's creation and also Anderson at it's

creation. I believe Matthew is Aaron's father and Edward his brother,

but have no proof.

Aaron m Elizabeth A. Madox in 1814. Matthew and Aaron Hawkins left

Anderson Co., Tn.,in 1817, for the Yellow Banks, after the Treaty of

1817. Aaron stayed in Ky (Ohio and Daviess Cos., the Yellow Banks is

Owensboro) and Matthew left ca 1823 and "stopping on Honey Creek Prarie,

died there". He was on his way up the Wabash for land in Fountain

County, Indiana. People that I believe to be his family, continued on,

and settled there. Some then left and went to Iowa.

In Anderson Co., Tn., Matthew and Edward owned land on the East Fork of

Poplar Creek. Edward owned land on Bare Creek. Aaron was Edwards Sworn

Chain Carrier for one of his surverys. Daniel Maddox was living on one

of Edward's surveys in 1811.

Aaron and Elizabeth (Madox) Hawkins children are: James Dixon, Mahala

Jane, Ruhamma Marietta Narcissa, Abiah, Amanda Melvina, Aaron Benjamin,

Joseph Edward, John Alexander, Susan Elizabeth.

I have a picture of the daughter of Mahala Jane Hawkins and her husband,

James McCray - Elizabeth A. McCray, b 1846. I also have family papers

of Elizabeth A. McCray and her husband, Wilhelm Georg Becker stating she

is Cherokee. From research I have found she is Powhatan/Cherokee.

Elizabeth A. Madox is Melungeon and Aaron Hawkins is Powhatan/Cherokee.

I have had a difficult time because James McCray and Mahala Jane Hawkins

died leaving orphans who were taken in by German neighbors in Posey

County, Indiana - after James was found dead. I suspect murdered, since

one of the family members that adopted one of the children was murdered

for adopting her.

If any of this strikes a chord, it would by heavenly... Thank you for

your patience, Jeanne

I live in Salem Oregon and my connection to Knox Co is through my great =

grandparents. =20

Ambrose Stan(s)berry and Mary Jane Ivins. Ambrose was born in North =

Carolina, Mary Jane in Tennessee. They were married in Knox Co. Aug 24, =

1841. They had the following children:

John Wesley Stansberry born 1842

> Richard Stansberry born 1844

> Elizabeth Stansberry

> Sarah C. Stansberry

> Lucinda Stansberry

> Eliza Stansberry

> Mornroe Hutchinson born 1853.

Monroe is my grandfather. So the story goes.....he married Matilda ??? =

born about 1850 in Tennessee. They left Tenn for Clay County Tx about =

1873. They moved to Grayson Co. Tx about 1890. Matilda became mentally =

ill and Monroe sent her to a hospital in Knoxville, Tenn. She did not =

get better. Ambrose filed for guardianship of the estate on January 6, =

1891. Unknown when Matilda died.

The only information I have on Mary Jane Ivins is dob 1825 in Tenn, dod =

Jan 5, 1905.

This is as far back as I have been able to trace my father's father =

family. Would love to hear from anyone that knows of these families.

But, they left off my personal favorite hotel -- the Marriott across from

Temple Square. It's just a half-block to the library, and it's attached

(meaning no weather issues) to a huge shopping mall. Yeah, it is a little

more expensive than one of the nearby motels; but, if I'm gonna splurge on

the trip, I'm gonna stay someplace where they wait on me hand and foot

<g>. And, it's not really that much more if you catch a special offer.
