---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 25 Feb 2001 20:43:09 -0500 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Prayers for Pontotoc, please... Our Rose-Anne Cunningham Bray, who is the hostess for the Knox County TNGenWeb site, lives in Pontotoc, Mississippi. A few days ago, major trunk cables were cut, so the town had no land-line phone service. Last night, multiple tornadoes hit the area and killed at least 16 people. Rose-Anne and her husband are fine, thank God, but the area is devastated. Rose-Anne can't get on-line, but she called me on a cell phone to let me know the status of everything. Please keep the people of Pontotoc in your prayers -- and join me in thanking God that Rose-Anne and Mr. William are okay. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Feb 2001 08:43:29 -0500 From: "Billie R. You're invited to join the Knoxville Welsh Society at its annual St. David's Day celebration on Friday night, March 2. The speaker is William Lovelace, who is nationally renowned for his harp abilities. He will provide a history of the harp and a mini-concert. So, I thought I'd pass the site along for what it's worth... http://www.saintclair.org/paf/pafrvsum.htm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Mar 2001 08:11:47 -0500 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Happy St. David's Day! St. David is the Patron Saint of Wales. Don't know if you're Welsh? Have a look the Welsh Surnames link at http://www.korrnet.org/welsh/ -- this list is by no means exhaustive, but it is, as it says, some of the common surnames of Welsh origin. Now, go pluck a daffodil blossom and pin it to your lapel! It beats wearing a leek (the other symbol) <g>. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Mar 2001 08:31:07 -0500 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Rose-Anne update She's fine, but the hospital where she works, the new home they're building, and the temp apartment where they're living were all in the path of the tornado. Thank God it literally stopped and turned just as it approached her. And, silly her, she was driving ahead of it (unknowing, of course). The city of Pontotoc is devastated. The stories of the deaths are heartbreaking -- a little boy having a sleepover for his birthday when his house was hit -- he was found in the middle of the street dead. People who attended a funeral for a friend killed on their way home. I think she said three generations of one family were killed together. It's unfathomable. On the up side, Rose-Anne became a granny again yesterday morning. Mama and baby are okay...but granny's a little too young for this (she's younger than me!). ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Mar 2001 14:18:01 -0500 From: "Billie R. McNamara" <knox@tngenweb.org> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] We've been awfully quiet! I'm sure everyone's busy with post-holiday stuff, but we've gotten awfully quiet on the list! And, we have new people... I've been spending the time doling out transcription work to several wonderful people who're helping us get things on the web site faster. And, I'm finally recreating all the stuff that was lost when my laptop died a few months ago -- files that wonderful volunteers transcribed nearly a year ago. (I had backups of the transcriptions, but not of the HTML files...I was in the process of that when the thing died!). Anyway, why not take a moment to write to the list: knoxcotn@rootsquest.com and tell us about you and your research in Knox and surrounding counties. I'll start: I'm the co-hostess for the Knox County TNGenWeb site, and I also do Jefferson County and help with Sevier County. I was born in Knoxville and raised in the area where Knox/Jefferson/Sevier Counties join. Most of my surname interests are listed at http://www.public.usit.net/mcnamara/surnames.htm but the ones specific to this area are Acuff = Bryan = Butler = Cate = Coons = Goodwin = Koontz = Langston = Lindsey = Martin = McCall = McCombs = McNamara = Underwood. ------------------------------ End of knoxcotn-digest V1 #179 ******************************
