If you're wondering where all your UseNet archives went when Google bought

Deja, here's an informative link:

Hopefully, this will work out soon -- genealogists rely on the archives!

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Irish journalist to speak in Dandridge 3/5

Those who live in the area will want to consider attending tonight's

lecture by Irish journalist and award-winning author, Billy Kennedy,

jointly sponsored by the Jefferson County Genealogical Society and the

Jefferson County Historical Society. He will speak on the

Irish-Appalachian connection.

The lecture will be held in the main-floor courtroom at the Jefferson

County Courthouse in Dandridge at 7 p.m. Parking is free, but most of it

involves walking on a hillside. I'd get there early to get a good seat.

Subject: [KnoxCoTN] my most wanted

Hi! Thanks to the hard work and generosity of many, I

know the names and dates associated with my Knox

County roots.

My FORD family came to Knox County in the early 1800's

from Virginia and my great-grandfather, David Murrell

Ford, was born in Knoxville in 1900. He was the

youngest son of David Leonodis FORD and his second

wife, Mary Ann SNAVELY.

I would love to connect with some FORD family cousins

and put some "meat" on the FORD family bones! I am

sure there are a ton of cousins out there...Grandaddy

said that we were related to all of Knox County and

half of East TN :^). I hope to visit in the near

future and collect some pictures and more information.

I am very curious to know why one of Grandaddy's

uncles was named "Calvin McClung" Ford. I discovered

that Mr. McClung was a prominent man in Knoxville, but

what inspired my ancestors to name a child after him

eludes me.

Hope all is well with everyone and keep thinking

Spring - we need all of the "warm" thoughts we can get

up here in New England today!

Chaille

At Billie's suggestion, I am going to transcribe two old directories from The

People's Telephone and Telegraph Company. The names are listed by exchange,

and it's just the names. No address, no telephone number - instructions are

to "Call County Operator for connection." Some exchanges are in Knox and some

in neighboring counties. Here's Andersonville & Ball Camp, the book is dated

December 1913.
