---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 12:16:03 -0400 From: Betty B Osborne <betty@ellijay.com> Subject: [KnoxCoTN] re frame houses and log cabins Hi Patty and List, Since the list seems to be in a summer slump I'll ask a question. My Alexander McMillan and Robert Houston came into Knox County before statehood. They probably first lived in log cabins. My question: About when were frame houses built? They would have required a saw mill, with the exception of Blount Mansion where the boards were floated down river from somewhere, I think. I know Houston built the brick house, Cold Spring Farm, still standing out in East Knoxville, but I don't know when. Wouldn't even a brick house have required boards? I'm sure somebody out there knows. Betty ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 12:37:02 EDT From: Cllghf67@aol.com Subject: [KnoxCoTN] Re: Lack of e-mail from you... Hi List, I haven't gotten any email from this list for a long time. Have I been taken off the list? Thank you, Carrie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 12:54:40 -0400 From: Patty Brock <rocky2@fuse.net> Subject: Re: [KnoxCoTN] re frame houses and log cabins To Betty and list, Most counties have an historian. I think there is a list posted on the TN Library and Archies site. I am sure they could either answer that for you or put you through to someone that could. I am wondering what has happened to Billie McNamara and Robert McGinnis. There hasn't been any postings to the list. I just looked and the last posting that I have from this list was from someone unsubbing. Before that it was from Tippy in June. Hope everything is ok with this list. I am researching the PACK surname. If anyone has any info on a James PACK that was living in Knoxville in 1880, I would like to hear from you. He was born ca. 1825 and most of his children were married in Knox co. There may be descendants still living around there. Also would like to know if anyone on the list lives near to Caldwell St.? I would like to find someone to see if there is still a family house standing today so that I could maybe get a photo of it. Thanks for any help, Patty Brock
