Dear Mr. Gaylor:

What a find! That is such a historic church.

Does the roll include:

Anne Amelia Cummings (1826-1905), widow of Col. David Hamilton Cummings

(1818-1867) or their children:

Mary Campbell Cummings

Sarah Gibson Cummings

David H. Cummings, Jr.

Col. Cummings died near Shreveport, LA in heroic fashion. He was on a

riverboat returning from

New Orleans when he assisted a mother and child suffering from cholera. No

one else would attend to them, so he did. He contracted the disease and

died within days. He was interred first

on the riverbank (the disease being so contagious), but Dr. James Park

later reinterred him at Eagle Bend, Anderson County, TN, on the family

plantation. (Source: Anne Amelia's Mexican War Pension application).

Amelia Preston Cummings reputedly transferred her membership from the

Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon, VA, where the Rev. Charles

Cummings (ancestor of her husband and chaplain for Daniel Boone, who often

preached with his rifle by the pulpit) founded the church and spread the

Gospel throughout that part of Virginia and into Tennessee.

Thanks for looking this up for me.

Oh, gosh! That would be wonderful! Would you consider typing the

information in serialized format and submitting it to the list? And, would

you let Rose-Anne and me put it on the Knox County website with you

credited as the donor? I know you'd receive the undying accolades of

hundreds of researchers.
