Subject: [KnoxCoTN] IMPORTANT! List changes coming

Hi, everyone...

The Knox County TNGenWeb site is growing, for which we're grateful. And,

believe it or not, the e-mail discussion list is getting more subscribers

(who are awfully quiet!). We've always wished for a simple interface for

managing your mailing list subscriptions -- majordomo is powerful, but it

can be convoluted if you don't understand the syntax required.

Because of all this, Rose-Anne and I have been considering lots of options

(kinda like looking at new houses). For a long time, we've wished we

could utilize local resources, so we could do a better job of promoting

Internet services in the Knox County area.

We've requested space on the KORRnet server, which has recently upgraded so

that it can provide more Web options to qualifying customers in its

regional service area.

Over the next few days, we are going to begin converting this mailing list

to the KORRnet list server. We feel sure you'll like the change -- it will

be very simple for you to manage your list subscription.

Initially, we will subscribe you to the list on the new server in the same

method you're currently subscribed to this list (mail or digest mode). You

will receive a "welcome" message from the KORRnet server. From that point

on, please address your messages to the list to:

knoxcotn@korrnet.org

This is very important: The new configuration is set to only send you an

acknowledgement of your posts. You won't receive a copy of your messages

to the list unless you're subscribed in digest mode.

Also very important: We're testing "reply to list" to see if we can spark

more discussion. That means you need to be careful when you hit "reply" --

if your message is only of interest to one person, please make absolutely

sure you change the recipient (TO:). If it's of general interest, which

most of our conversations are, please leave the recipient as it is.

Digests will be generated more frequently, too. You should get at least

one a day if you're subscribed in Digest Mode.

Effective November 1, the Rootsquest server list will go away. If messages

are inadvertently addressed to the old server (knoxcotn@rootsquest.com)

before that date, we will forward them to the new list.

Please be sure to change your address book entries to the new

address! And, do let us know if you have any questions or comments about

this change.

Thanks for supporting us as we try to bring you the very best possible

Internet site for Knox County research!

Rose-Anne (knoxcotn@wdbj.net)

Billie (knox@tngenweb.org)
