is it possible that Smith was her married name? My grandmother was also named Martha Smith. She was a Gibson previously. She had my father Don Lawrence Smith in September 1914 in Ducktown, TN. Her husband's name was Henry. She died when my father was very small. Could this be a connection? Let me know even if Martha isn't the link we share.

Dr. Charles Edward Hamilton of Sevierville (cousin)
Windsor and Lucille of St. Augustine FL (nephew)
Tully and Gertie Roach, Brewerton WASH (1926)
A brother whose letterhead is Grace Dry Goods Co., Asheville NC (can't read signature)
Minnie Buckley (I think that's the signature), sister of Cardington, OH
Kate Dunorth (I think that's the last name),Los Angeles
A telegram from H.G. Demarcus, Norfolk VA
Mildred -- can't tell last name or location (other cards have Frank too)
Many cards with just signatures.
If these people are in your line, I will be glad to transcribe their information. (They are all encouraging, newsy letters.)

Colleen, I need more info. I have looked at census records and find in the 1850 census three Thomas McMillans. The first is Thomas, the brother of my g-g-g-grandmother Esther McMillan Baker. His wife is Sarah Reagan. They married in 1815. Their children were: William B.A., Mary Jane & Sarah. I also believe they had two sons named Andrew and John R. The second Thomas born ca. 1813/14 is married to a Jane. Their children were: Narcissa Hester, Margaret Rebecca, James Matthew, Nancy Jane and Loretta E. The third Thomas was born about 1830 and is not married. I don't show any Thomas MaMillan's in the 1860 census unless their name was misspelled which maybe I should look into. Only the second Thomas shows up in the 1870 census. Here again it could be a misspelling of the name. What can you give me on dates for your Thomas? Also, dates on Murphy Dugan McMillan will help. Look forward to hearing from you.

Elizabeth, Thanks for the offer, but I am not really tracing the Ward family. My aunt married William Morris Ward, and I have him and his children, and that's all I'm doing on that line. The children were by his first marriage.

What else do you know about Thomas, i.e. brothers and sisters? I found Thomas in the 1900 census and it gives his birth as Jan. 1854. The 1860 census doesn't have a Thomas age 5 or 6 but their are two who are close to that age, one a couple of years old, the other a couple of years younger. The younger has an older sister named Nancy and an older brother John; and a younger sister Lizzy. Any names sound familiar? They weren't listed with any parents. Was Thomas orphaned? Let me know and I can dig deeper. Don S.

Debi Remer --
Thursday, 31 August 2000, at 3:53 p.m.
I'm looking for any information about the following:
Edwin Reuben Clark(e),m (1), Mary Ann Sessler. Mary Ann died May 14, 1873 in Knoxville and is buried in Old Gray Cemetery. Edwin then married Eliza Trent September 30, 1874 in Knoxville. Eliza died July 24, 1884 and is also buried at Old Gray. Edwin died March 02, 1880 also buried with his wives.
Eliza was left to raise my ggrandmother, Mary Ollie Clark(e) who was born in 1868. She was 12 by the time both her natural parents died, 16 when Eliza died.
Besides finding any information about the above people, I want to find out what happened to Ollie. She ended up living & working in Nashville where she met my ggrandfather and married in 1894.
Thanks for any and all help. I'm going bonkers with this family.

Hi Don, Well what I have is this: He had a brother, named Dugan, and two sisters but I don't have their names. I know he married Rebecca Wolfenbarger in 1873, had the two sons, Murphy Dugan (my grandfather) and Jesse, and the three daughters, Ida, Callie and Bessie. They lived in Knoxville TN. Other than that the names don't sound familiar. I don't know if he was an orphan or not. The one found in the 1900 census could very well be the one but who knows. I really do appreciate your efforts. I just wish I had more to go on. I'll see if I can contact my uncle and see if he or my aunt can give me any more information. Have you been doing this sort of thing for a long time? I've felt very frustrated-mostly due to the lack of time and information. Thanks again for your help. Colleen Poor
