Looking for information about my gg-grandfather, Willis Green Montgomery, who died in August/Sept 1863, possibly in the Knox County area. He was married to Elizabeth M. (Carpenter) Montgomery, and their youngest child, Willis Jr., was born in November 1863 in Knoxville. Will Jr's obit from 1942 states that his father died just 2 months before his birth...so we're assuming Willis Sr. died in the Knoxville area. We don't know how he died or where he is buried. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Suggestions on how to obtain a death certificate for Willis Sr., and/or a birth certificate for Willis Jr. would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Brown/Flatford connection
Terri
Brown Jurca -- Saturday, 12 February 2000, at 2:56 a.m.
On the 1870 Knox co. census in the home of John Brown and Sarah Wood Brown , it showed a John Flatford 16 listed as servant/laborer...In 1880 he is listed next door ,26, married with wife Emily 22, and children Martha,6: Nancy,3: and Emily, 1/12 or one month old. This means Martha was born 1874, Nancy born 1877, and Emily born 1879-80. We are trying to ascetain if John Flatford is a family relation of the Brown's or the Wood's. In the Sharon Babtist Church Cemetery there is a James B. Flatford born 1891 and a Susan b 1883...are these more od John and Emily's children ?? They are buried in close proximity to Sarah Wood Brown and her son James and his wife Mary and their children...I just get the feeling because they lived died and were buried so close that here has to be a family link....Does any one out there have these Flatfords in their family tree...and are you willing to share info to help solve this mystery. Thanks and waiting anxiously to hear......Terri Brown Jurca

Thank you for your response. I was at a dead end. I had found Alexander Forgey and Elizabeth Sawyers marriage (13 May 1805) in the Knox Co., Tenn. Marriages. I had made a note about them, thinking they were of the right age and married at the right time to be the parents of Rachael S. Forgey, but I could not make the connection. Any information you might have about the Forgeys would be welcomed. If I can be of any help to you, let me know.
If you had to be organized to do genealogy, I believe I would be barred.

Seeking any information about the journalist Patty Boyd, who was a well known Knoxville figure in the early 1900s. She was involved in a lawsuit with the Jones family over the will of Ole Bull Jones, who apparently left her everything he owned. Does anyone know anything about Patty Boyd, her family?

HARPER, STOUT
Linda McDaniel Smith
-- Saturday, 26 February 2000, at 11:56 p.m.
My ancestors were married in Knox County, TN, on 20 Aug 1843. They were: CASWELL HARPER, b. abt. 1816 in Virginia, and LOUISA STOUT, b. May 1814 in NC. This couple subsequently moved to Chattanooga and produced 12 children. Does anyone know anything about these families, or of HARPER families originating in Virginia, or STOUT families originating in NC? I believe CASWELL HARPER's name was CASTLETON HARPER, from evidence of near-spelling in the 1860 GA census, and the fact that he had a son named CASTLETON. There were Castleton Harper's in Albemarle County, VA, in the 1700's, the oldest being a deputy sheriff there. But I have so far failed to make that connection.

1926 GIRL CHILD GIVEN AWAY,KNOXVILLE
Bettys Sister -- Sunday, 27 February 2000, at 6:58 p.m.
Hi,
I am trying to locate ANYONE that would have the real information on the following event,
In @1923 BESSIE ELIZABETH LOUISE HELTON,(18 years old) MARRIED; THEODORE JENKINS, IN KNOXVILLE TENNESSE,
he had just returned from the service,
IN 1926 ,A GIRL CHILD WAS BORN,in knoxville,
MY MOTHER BESSIE HELTON m Jenkins, took this child to raise, as her own, the childs true birth father, was the man my mother BESSIE was married to at the time, THEODORE JENKINS, and the birth mother did not want the child, she was ill, as was the baby, and she couldn't take care of the baby girl,
so she gave the baby to my mother, and the babys daddy(her husband)
the child was named BETTY LOU JENKINS or BETTY LOUISE JENKINS DOB; JUNE 22nd,1926, in Knoxville area,
in 1928 my mom, met my dad, and left THEODORE,taking BETTY with her,
in 1933 my mom and dad JAY ESTEL PARTON moved to California,
my folks loved and raised BETTY LOU, as they did the rest of us kids, but now UNTRUE,and DEFLAMING things are being said about my mother, and i MUST find the TRUTH....
.....you see, my mommy and daddy were both murdered in Louieville Ky,in March of 1974, by a man, of a family, that they had 'taken in' to give a 'fresh start in life'.......
so my beloved mother is not here to defend herself againest the LIES from her own blood:-(
So it is important that i FIND, a birth certificate,on Betty Lou, as well as ANYONE that can recall the THEODORE and BESSIE JENKINS family during those years........1923-1928,
thanking you with all my heart,
lovingly in kinship, Dora Lee Parton

I will try to find this area on Wednesday or Thursday. I have a camera ready!
