Re: Clayton-Bays
Ramona Morrison -- Thursday, 1 February 2001, at 8:24 p.m.

I have a family of claytons that I cannot trace beyond Tennessee but we believe they came to Tennessee about the same time and from the same area of North Carolina. The first is Pleasant Clayton (B Dec 26, 1804) who married Nancy Eleanor Clark (B April 26, 1801). Both claim they were born in North Carolina. We have been told Pleasant's father was Aaronad Hyde Clayton, and grandfather, George N. Clayton. The only persons we know about for certain is Pleasant and Nancy. There are letters stating that Pleasant's family spent time living in caves perhaps as a result of the Revolutionary War.

I hope this information helps. I also am interested if you believe there are any connections.

Ramona Morrison -- Sunday, 4 February 2001, at 5:36 a.m.

This could be a relation to Pleasant Clayton. The time frame is correct. We just don't have any physical information of him being related to anybody so until he comes up as somebody's son or brother we won't know.

So far I have not found a Letitia Lambert or James Craig. I do know my Lamberts are from NC and I think Cataloochie, NC. Have a small business and this is a busy time-sales tax, business tax and so on, taxes, taxes etc. I will make note of these names and will email you if I find any mention of these names.

Bean, Price, Music, Long Marriages
Greg Whitlock -- Monday, 5 February 2001, at 6:20 p.m.

Hi, I am looking for information on my 2nd great grandmother. Her name is listed on the death certificate of Lucy Bean Swanner as Mary J. Price. Family history says she was married several times and the kids called her a "Long Musical Bean" A death record of one of Lucy Bean Swanners named her maiden name as Long to help support evidence.
I have found in Knox County a Mary E. J. Music md. Andrew Bean 28 Jul 1877 (Lucy Bean and her sister Vena Lou Bean Ruth were both born about 1879 and 1881). Also a Mary E. J. Bean married Samuel Long in Knox County 24 Mar 1888. Anyone have any information on these families or know the best way to get information on them?

Thanks,

Dottie Millen -- Thursday, 22 February 2001, at 2:09 a.m.

I now have a New email address. dottiem@ewol.com

Coastalweb closed their doors. Sure hard on queries..
If you have any information on the Newman family, Jacob b 1749 John 1781, George Walter 1812, please contact me. They lived in the Strawberry Plains area in Knox County. Some family members are buried in Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery. Looking for the burial site of Jacob who died in 1834 in Knox County and for John who died sometime between 1827 and 1834. I have quite a bit of informatin on this family. Baker, Newman and Ault travelled together from PA, MD to Knox County in 1796. Were members of the Brethern Church and then connected with the Methodist Church in Strawberry Plains.

Margaret Johnson married William D Johnson she is buried in Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery. In 1990, her grandchildren placed a large new stone on her grave and we would like to have them contact us.

Thank you. dottiem@ewol.com

Re: KENNEDY/TALLENT/BROWN
Mary Hicks -- Saturday, 24 February 2001, at 7:12 p.m.

I only have the census to go on. I believe that John Jack Brown was born 1849, Tenn, and d Blount Co, Tenn. His wife Nancy came from a family where her father was deaf and several of her siblings were either deaf or hearing/speech impaired. She was b about 1852, Tenn, and d about 1937, Blount Co.

They did have a son named Sam Brown who lived in South Knoxville, according to the Parham papers. He took in his mother's sister, Katherine (Kizzie) who was deaf. She died about 1900 at his home.

I wish I could be more specific. I have 3 distinct Brown lines to try to unravel, and it gets confusing. Most of my research has been done in Blount Co, although I have tried to locate Sam in Knox Co.

I hope this helps,
Mary Hicks

The Watchman (Maryville, TN) April 27, 1883

W.B. Staley Jr., of Knoxville, committed suicide last Monday night. Unrequited love was the cause. He was a son of Judge Staley, was of an inoffensive and mild nature, possessed good talents and was respected by all who knew him. We deeply sympathize with the family in their sad affliction.

Glenn Teffeteller -- Sunday, 25 February 2001, at 8:02 p.m.

East Tennessee News (Maryville, TN) Monday, August 27, 1883

On the 22nd inst., about six miles from Knoxville, in the 12th District of Knox County, John McClain and George Guinn/Gwinn lost their lives in a well which was being dug on McClain's farm. Guinn went into the well in the morning and was overcome by carbonic gas and fell over and became unconscious. McClain went down to rescue Guinn and was himself overpowered by the deadly gas. There was no one near to give aid to the men, and McClain's little children could only look down on the dying agonies of their father. The alarm was given and men came, and an unsuccessful attempt was made to bring up the bodies by a man going down and tying ropes to them, and they had to be taken out with hooks.

Council/Ferguson family 1805/1840
Kaye Hancock -- Wednesday, 28 February 2001, at 7:56 p.m.

I am searching for information on the John Council and Rhonda Ferguson family of Know Co TN. They were married on Aug 22, 1805 somewhere in Tn, I think Knox Co. Their first son Willis D. Council was born in Knox Co Tn 5/27/1808.
I am not certain who the parents of Rhonda were but I believe that her father was James Ferguson. John Council and James Ferguson showed up in the 1840 Talladega Co Al census.
I would gladly share information with anyone researching these two families.
Thanks, Kaye
