Re: Haun
Lian Thomas -- Saturday, 8 January 2000, at 12:24 p.m.

Thank you for your replies. As of today, I am still searching. I appears that Russell Haun may have been the same as ATR Haun who married Sarah Humphrey. If this is the case, this would be the same Russell and Sarah Humphrey and children living on Euclid Street in the 1910 Knox County Census. My grandmother, Bessie Lee Humphrey is listed as a boarder with them. She also appears with my great grandfather and her two sisters, Minnie and Grace on the same census at a different location. Can anyone confirm that this is the same Haun/Humphrey on the Early Tennessee Marriages and what Sarah's connection is to the Joseph McConnell Humphrey (s/o Elijah Humphrey) line?

Am also still seeking information on James Booher and Juanita McDaniel (Neata McDonald?). Their son, Arthur Walter Booher was my grandfather and married Bessie Lee Humphrey in January 1920. R.N. Rouse a minister of God performed the ceremony. Was it at Cedar Springs?

Fleming WADE - Polly MCCLAIN in TN & AL
Mark P. Shuman -- Monday, 10 January 2000, at 2:24 a.m.

Fleming Wade was born in VA in 1801-1802 and married a (Mary?) Polly MCCLAIN in Knox Co. in TN 1827. The Fleming WADE family lived in Knox Co. TN at the time of the 1830 Census, then moved to Anderson, Co. TN where it is in the 1840 Census. The Fleming Wade family included at least 11 children born in TN. The family left TN in about 1848, moving to Morgan Co. AL. See the 1850 and 1860 Morgan Co. AL Censuses for details on the children. Fleming Wade and family apparently lived between Somerville and Valhermoso Springs in Morgan Co. AL until sometime after 1870. The children of Fleming and (Mary) Polly WADE appear to include at least four sons who served in the Confederate Army (Francis M., Milton, Pleasant G. and William T.). The youngest son, Daniel H. WADE, was my ancestor and was about 14 years old at the time the Civil War ended. Daniel H. WADE emigrated to TX, apparently sometime after 1880, and was in the 1900 Ellis Co., TX Census. If you have a research interest in the Fleming WADE - Polly MCCLAIN family, I would appreciate hearing from you. Write by smailmail to the mailing address I provided with this query. I will not reply to e-meils.

I am acting as proxy for my computerless mother, Stella Mae FERGUSON (Rogers), born 27 Nov 1917, Townsend, Blount Co. Her father was Samuel Wilson FERGUSON (b. abt 1880 Blount Co., d. We are searching for any information regarding the CLARKE side of the family, as my mother was born without a birth certificate, was in reduced circumstances, and entered the St. John's Mission Home for Girls, in Knoxville, at an early age. A brother of Eunice CLARKE was Hezrell CLARKE, known by my mother to be a baker in Knoxville as late as 1943. His first wife was Daisy____ and he married a second time (name unk), both marriages apparently without children. Beyond that, my mother has no memory of her mother, Eunice. My father says his that all he knows of his father is that his name was John Wells in fact oldsters would call my dad Johnny Wells even though his name was Jerry. My father was born in Blount County, around Maryville and or Lafallette, but was born in Knoxville to his mother Irene Garner. My father was born Jan 20. He knows nothing of his father. Can you draw anything from these facts at all, or are we both looking for a differert John Wells.

I am searching for the ancestry of Capt. Thomas Gillespie. According to Dr. J. G. M. Ramsey in his book on Lebanon-in-the-Forks Church, "Capt. Thomas Gillespie was one of the early Elders of Lebanon, one of the original bench, I think; he came from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and his wife was a [Virginia]Vance, I believe, from the same county, or perhaps from Guilford County, N. Let me join the club. I'm also researching John Campbell. Mine was b 1798 in Mecklenburg, NC, then came to Tennessee. A gr-son John R Campbell was b 1825 in Lawrence Co, Tn. Otherwise, I'm not sure about their migration. If you find anything on mine, please let me know.

I'm also researching McMillen, McMillan in Knox Co. Another John!! I think he is related to Alexander McMillan, Rev. War Patriot, but can't prove it. Does anyone know about my McMillens?

Hi Lou Ann, I am a direct descendant of the Meltabargers and the Trouts and have been researching these lines for several years along with a cousin of mine. Their history is quite extensive. How are you related to this line? I am related to this line through my paternal grandmother, her mother was a Meltabarger. Her great grandfather was Jacob Meltabarger who married Peggy Trout in 1811 in Knox Co., Tenn. My cousin who lives in Union Co. Tenn and I have collaborated for many years sorting all these folks out. Let me know what you need and we can share information. Your possible cousin, Bonnie

Hi, Hope I can help all of you in search of the Walker Family of East Knox co. Tenn. There is a book called "The Walkers of House Mountain and Their Kinsman" compiled and written by Thomas Hollingsworth Walker, 5504 Peyton Place, Knoxville, Tennesse 37918. 1986. I have only a copy of part of it as my family lines connect with the Walkers. I think you will find the answers you may be looking for in it as it is quite an extensive history with names and places in it. Hope this helps! My cousin found this book in the McClung Collection in Knoxville Public Library. Cheers, Bonnie
