Elijah Widner
sonya -- Friday, 2 June 2000, at 11:49 a.m.

looking for help in proving Elijah Widner to be my grandfather Walter.Walter was probably his middle name. Elijah's date of birth was March 27, 1895 in Tennessee. He also died in Powell, Knox County in September of 1966. I was 4 months old. This man has to have been the same one.All of the facts match .My grandparents were listed in the 1920 Knox County Census of TN. My gramdmother's name was Bessie. They had her parents living with them. I know that things can be easily misread and feel that is what happened with the census which listed my grandfather as Elisha instead of Elijah. I need to have this verified. If anyone can read the actual census for 1920 please contact me very soon. Thanks

Re: Henderlight
Jeff Berry -- Thursday, 8 June 2000, at 11:34 a.m.

David,

In the 1880 Census of Knox County,Tennessee, the 16th and 23rd Districts, household 246-246 there is a William Henderlight. He is 35 years old, born in Virginia, and is a fisherman. Others in his house hold include: Hiry age 21 Female born in Tennessee Keeping house, Margaret age 13 Female born in Tennessee, Thomas age 8 Male born in Tennessee, Cordelia age 5 Female born in Tennessee, Mollie 3 Female born in Tennessee.

I believe this is the family you are looking for. If I have the correct William(I have a William born in 1845 which matches the birthdate on the census) he had a brother, Harvey Leander Henderlight, who was my great-great grandfather.

It is interesting to note that William was living away from the rest of his family who were in the Burlington area of East Knoxville. I assume because of his occupation as a fisherman.

There father was John Henderlight who married Margaret Medley. William's great grandfather would be Isaac Henderlight who married Susan Keister.

The family lines trace back to Virginia where the last name changes to Henderliter and a few other variations of the name. The spelling of Henderlight will usually refer to the East Tennessee line and this spelling is not seen outside of the East Tennessee area.

Please e-mail me and we will exchange information

Jeff Berry

I am trying to find more information on Reverand Samuel Patton. The data I have been given shows that he died in Knox County, so I am hoping someone will be able to help me. He was supposedly a well respected, Methodist minister. I also have been told that a book was written about him called "Life and Times of Rev. S. Patton." The author was said to be D. R. McAnally and it was published in 1859, four years after his death. If anyone has any information on Samuel or the book, please contact me.
