Tennessee Heirs, Inc.

Surname: Johnson, Wilhite, Wilhoite, Ford, Brown, Monday, Anderson, Collins

Interested in contacting anyone from Knox County or surrounding areas, who have family history dealings with TENNESSEE HEIRS, INC. of early to mid- 1900's. Many families joined in this venture with hopes of regaining claim to property once belonging to ancestors of Baltimore, Maryland - the STANSBURY's! I am hoping to contact persons (or their family members) to learn more of these events. While I do not believe the venture would have any merit at present day.......... I am interested in learning about the individuals and their families that were associated with this Genealogical Adventure! I have the highest admiration for the people who belonged to this and want to learn of their personal experiences. I have begun to gather personal correspondences within my own family and can't to wait to hear from others. These people had a spirit I admire and they accomplished so much, with so little..... I hope to hear from other's soon..... Thank you ~ Connie

Surname: MARTIN

Hi Ms Jackson,

Thanks for responding to my message. I read all of the correspondence between you and Mr. R. Keith Martin before I made my post back in May. I was convinced that you were right until I noticed that the birthdate on George's tombstone in the Callahan Cemetery in Reynolds Co., MO is 1819. Would have been quite a feat to marry Elizabeth McIntyre as a one-year old in 1820. Further, he is only 32 on the 1850 Reynolds Co., MO census.

I can only conclude that you are referring to another George Martin.

Please write back if you have some other info. I really want to settle this and move back another generation in my research.

Thanks again,

I have done some checking on Martins in Roane County. I am afraid the George and Elizabeth you are hunting are George Martin JR married Elizabeth Mc Intyre September 24, 1820 in Roane County TN. In the 1830 Census, they are list with one male 0-5 yrs. Now I may not have a good understanding of this line, because mine is from George JR's brother. I think Keith Martin ( searcher1@utah-inter.net ) is working on this line that went to MO. Also this George does not have a brother named Robert. Kieth sent me some info that says:

Fisk/Allred/Brown

Posted by Mara Fisk <mfisk@entergy.com> on Wed, 02 Jun 1999

Surname: FISK, ALLRED, BROWN

I posted the following information on this message board on May 3, 1999. Subsequently, I have learned that Elizabeth BROWN's father's name was William BROWN.

My gggrandfather, Crawford FISK (b. abt. 1838, father's name possibly James FISK), married Martha ALLRED who was from Alabama (b. abt. 1832, dau of William ALLRED, b.1806 in Knox Co., TN, m. Elizabeth BROWN in Blount Co. AL in 1829; Elizabeth was born in 1814). They moved to Marion (now Baxter) County, AR before the Civil War and Crawford was listed as living in the home of William ALLRED in the 1860 census. Martha had a sister named Carey Ann who was living with Martha and Crawford during the war. Crawford was killed by jayhawkers in his dooryard before his pregnant wife's eyes while home on leave from Mitchell's 14th Arkansas Confederate Army Infantry Regiment to get in winter firewood for his wife shortly before my ggrandfather, James C. FISK, was born on March 30, 1865. Carey Ann ALLRED ran to the neighbors to get help. According to family tradition, Crawford FISK's older brother was Jim FISK of the Jay GOULD/Jim FISK Wall Street gold scandals in New York in the 1870's and 1880's. Would be happy to correspond with you if this info rings a bell. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am wondering if the William BROWN you show listed as the son of William BROWN who died in 1807 might be my William.

John CLEVELAND and Mary MARTIN m.1807

Posted by Norm Steffen <nsteffen@olg.com> on Tue, 01 Jun 1999

Surname: CLEVELAND, MARTIN

I am trying to find my way beyond my brick wall, Jesse Cleveland rumored to have been born "near Knoxville" approx 1815.

I am trying a process of elimination and I have unfortunately been able to eliminate EVERYTHING I have found.... sigh....

I do have one more lead I would like to track down. I have several sources which mention the marriage of John CLEVELAND and Mary MARTIN May 3, 1807 in Knox County.

If anyone out there has knowledge of this union or especially their offspring I would really appreciate hearing what they have.

Thanks,
Norm Steffen

6th TN Inf.

Surname: Edington

My great grandfather James Marshall Edington of Knox County and his brother William H. Edington were in the 6th Tn Volunteer Inf. during the Civil War. I have their pension papers. They joined together and stayed together all during the War. They joined for duty on March 8, 1862 at Boston, KY,; discharged 15 March 1865 at Wilmington, NC.,
"by reason of expiration of service". These two brothers, along with another Edington which I can not tie to the family yet, James Higgins Edington, deserted for 3 months, but rejoined the co.Dec. 1862, at Cumberland Gap. A Capt. Thomas Doak Edington
presided over the Court martial.

They had a brother Robert Hanks Edington who was in the war
but I don't know if he was in the 6th.

Do you want info about them?
