Gideon Graves & Eliza Atkins
Betsy Gammill-Hayes -- Wednesday, 1 March 2000, at 2:15 p.m.

Gideon & Eliza were born in Knox County in 1840 and 1844, respectively. Gideon served in the 1st TN Inf, CO B, from 1861 to 1864 when he was mustered out. He and Eliza married in 1864 in Union County and lived and raised children (Betty, Wes, Parlon & Arve) in or near Luttrell until approx. the early 1890s. I have traced 'Liza to her father, Elige, in Grainger County, TN. But Gideon, prior to his birth and after he left for Texas where he died in the 1920s, is a dead-end for me.

I believe Gideon was a Mason -- at least after he moved to Texas. Liza (aka Elizabeth J)died at my grandparents home in Nebraska in about 1924.

If you have any information about either, please share. I would appreciate it very much. E-mail me directly at bghrealtor@home.com.

Thanks.

Re: 1926 GIRL CHILD GIVEN AWAY,KNOXVILLE
Kitty Elizabeth Parton -- Monday, 6 March 2000, at 9:37 a.m.

Your sister, my aunt BETTY LOU JENKINS was born to your mother BESSIE LOUISE HELTON and her husband whom she married in 1923, THEODORE JENKINS was his name. Grandma, BESSIE LOUISE HELTON was divorced by her husband and two day's after the divorce THEODORE JENKINS married his second and final wife. THEY adopted his brother's daughter after the child's mother was too ill and they had seven children at the time to care of another so THEODORE and his new wife adopted the child calling her their own...her name was ANNA JENKINS. THEODORE's second wife was infertile that is why they asked to adopt her. Grandma took aunt BETTY LOU JENKINS and went to go live with her mother RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON and an unknown stepfather and two step brothers/half-brothers. My grandfather JAY EASTEL PARTON assualted his wife ETHEL MABES and after breaking her jaw and her being hospitalized my grandpa JAY went up to Ohio and met with my grandmother and together they came to California. My grandfather's first daughter by his first marriage with ETHE MABES, NETTIE PARTON DRAPER told me this story and so did the nephew of THEODORE JENKINS and the adopted daughter of THEODORE JENKINS. This material has been forwarded to my cousin MONA WOOLARD and given to her after documentation on the online family Parton tree...she is the daughter of my aunt BETTY LOU JENKINS PARTON WOOLARD. These are all proven facts and the JENKINS clearly remember the union and pregnancy my grandmother experienced with her daughter BETTY LOU JENKINS and lived a short year with THEODORE as husband and wife before he left her to marry his other wife.

Kitty Elizabeth Parton -- Monday, 6 March 2000, at 9:50 a.m.

My grandmother BESSIE LOUISE HELTON was born in knox Co Knoxville Tennesse. She was born in 1905. Her parent's were RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON and DAVID WILLIAM HELTON. I was told by my mother "Dora Lee" that DAVID WILLIAM HELTON had been killed while employed with the railroad co during a "train coupling"? After his supposed death my great grandmother RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON remarried an unknown man and moved up to OHIO. My grandmother BESSIE LOUISE HELTON was first married to THEODORE JENKINS in early 1920's and BESSIE LOUISE HELTON gave birth to BETTY LOU JENKINS...Living with THEODORE JENKINS until a separation, divorce and remarriage two day's after the divorce by Jenkins and his second and last wife. BESSIE went up to live with her parent's in Ohio and took their daughter with her. My grandfather JAY EASTEL PARTON (his mother a DORA HILTON or HELTON..could have been previously married as my grandfather had a half brother named "Plase Helton"...his father JOHN W. PARTOn all of Pulaski Co Kentucky) went up north to Ohio and he and my grandmother left together to come to Los Angeles California with grandma Bessie's daughter Betty Lou. Does anyone know of a DAVID WILL HELTON killed during a "train coupling"..do you know of the HELTON line that runs thru the JENKINS line I mention? Rumor has it..this is DAVID WILLIAM HELTON's line indirectly. Please view my Parton online family tree located at the ancestry.com online family tree area. feel free to add or advise ...thanks in advance...kitty elizabeth parton...grand daughter of JAY EASTEL PARTON and BESSIE LOUISE HELTON.

Re: 1926 GIRL CHILD GIVEN AWAY,KNOXVILLE
KITTY ELIZABETH PARTON -- Wednesday, 8 March 2000, at 5:26 a.m.

I TOLD YOU DORA LEE PARTON BACK IN JANUARY THAT I HAD FOUND THE RELATIVES MOST ESPECIALLY THE DIRECT FAMILY OF THEODORE JENKINS. tHEY PROVIDED ME WITH THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE, MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE AND THE DIVORCE PAPERS ARE COMING FROM TENNESSEE WHERE THEY ARE ALL FILED AND ALL AVAILABLE.

I was told for years the story that my aunt Betty Lou was adopted. SHE WAS IN FACT NEVER!!!! ADOPTED. My grandmother your mother BESSIE LOUISE HELTON knew THEODORE JENKINS thru HIS HELTON family. Theodore's Helton's and grandma's Helton's (David William Helton are related). They married..I have the written history by the newphew of Theodore Jenkins and the other info backed up by the TRULY "adopted" daughter of Theodore and his "infertile" wife who stayed his spouse until they both passed away. THeodore of major diabetes, renal heart failure and other related diseases (these diseases run thru my Aunt Betty Lou Jenkins line)....Mr. Jenkins (he's asked to stay out of any "conflicts"..I can and will respect that) told me personally and I explained to you that I sent the papers to Mona Woolard the daughter of Betty Lou Jenkins Parton and John Woolard. It was imprt. to Mona due to her twins birth (we have NONE listed in any of my Parton family lines but Theodore Jenkins had over eight sets of twins as well as the hereditary diseases that afflicted my aunt for years)

THIS WAS NOT MADE OR CREATED. iT IS TRUE THAT MY GRANDMOTHER GAVE BIRTH to BETTY LOUS JENKINS..she was married to THEODORE JENKINS at the time and she was known to be VISBLY pregnant. She went to a local Knox Co. hospital and delivered by anut BETTY LOU JENKINS. They lived approx. less than a year together.

THEODORE JENKINS divorce grandma BESSIE LOUISE HELTON and two days later remarried his second and final spouse.

I will be "scanning" on documentation and placing it on a new webpage called Kitty's Family Search located at MyFamily.com.

I would never lie or create lies to hand down as legacies for my children or my other family members. I have never lied in fact I have sorted out a number of lies, misspellings and purposeful untrue facts thrown in on top of a very few honest items.

I am honest, hard-working and have great compassion for family tie. THis is the truth and if anyone would like further info and where it can be found please feel free to kittyparton@Yahoo.com...many thanks and if anyone can help with the Helton line of this family Id be appreciative.

IM STILL NOT QUITE SURE WHY IT IS SO DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT MY AUNT BETTY LOU JENKINS was BESSIE LOUISE HELTON's first born daughter out of her first marriage? It sounds like from Theodore Jenkins and Theodore's daughter's description of her father, our Betty Lou was a "chip of the old block"..kind, caring and compassionate..Theodore Jenkins later became a "minister" before dying of heart failure etc...I was told he was the "favorite" amongst the nieces and nephews...

THEODORE JENKINS&BESSIE HELTON 1923-1931
KITTY ELIZABETH PARTON -- Wednesday, 8 March 2000, at 7:42 a.m.

Following is some of the info recevd from the nephew of THEODORE JENKINS and his "adopted" daughter "A".....Theodore was the 9th of 12 kids and was born in SEVIER co., TN His parents are listed on the Parton ancestry.com online family tree for my family herein mentioned...Theodore was born during the Civil Way ..Theodore joined the ARMY during WW1 and was DISCHARGED on 29 APRIL 1921. He then moved to Knoxville because Sevier was strictly a farming comm..he was a wood worker/mill worker at the time. He married my grandmother BESSIE LOUISE HELTON on 3 MARCH 1923..On June 22, 1926 my aunt BETTY LOU JENKINS PARTON WOOLARD was born. THEODORE JENKINS and BESSIE LOUISE HELTON were the BIOLOGICAL parent's of (this "girl born in 1926"...? and given away..no no no...that is not how my aunt Betty Lou came to be...I have well researched this as it is what propelled me to "find the truth" regarding the made up stories and lies re my own particular Parton family line. Why the truth was distorted I have no idea and in a way I dont care. This is the truth according to eyewitnesses still living and some writings from this Jenkins family shared with me via internet)..... My grandma and THeodore were married in 1923 (two years after he was discharged from the ARMY)...aunt BETTY LOU JENKINS born in 1926 three years AFTER they were married and the on 9 JULY 1931 he divorced my "Grandma Bessie" and married E.J.L. on 1 Aug 1931. Theodore was the lead carpenter on several large projects in Knoxville...Theodore and "E" adopted A.B. Jenkins...daughter of Theodore's brother the mother had died in the childbirth and since the bro had several older children she was adopted by THeodore and his spouse. This was written by his nephew.."Theodore became a part time preacher after he retired. I remember him as the most kind of my uncles"...He died on 6 Dec 1968 and is buried in Knoxville at a local cemetery there with other family of his. The daughter who was really adopted (NOT MY AUNT BETTY LOU)is rather "reclusive" (to quote her cousin and herself!) and was kind enough to share the information I just wrote and more as well. The family saw the couple THEODORE JENKINS and BESSIE LOUISE HELTON BEfore the marriage, during the marriage and the start of her pregnancy with my aunt BETTY LOU JENKINS thru the delivery that occured at a hospital in Knox! And of course the divorce that followed a few years later. I personally was sent a copy of each marriage for Theodore Jenkins found at the Knox Co. archives as well as a certified copy of ORIGINAL BIRTH certificates. The nephew of Theodore's is trying to acquite the divorce decree for me.

On the other note I was told by Mr. Jenkins that "Bessie Lou" (the name she handed to my aunt BETTY "LOU") was called "Bessie Lou"....back in 1830's when the Jenkins family first came to TN there were two brother's LABAN and CALEB and a sister named "Sina"...Sina married a Levi Helton and it was believed that DAVID WILLIAM HELTON's line descended from that line.

Photos of the Jenkins family and Bessie were sent to me as well. These too along with the three letters from the "hand of Mr. Jenkins and the "adopted" daughter) were sent to Mona Woolard, one of grandma BESSIE's other grandkids..my cousin!

Theodore had several heart attacks before he died..his mother died of a heart problem, his father "J" died of a stroke the grandfather died of a stroke..his great grandfather died in 1877 of heart problems.

To put it in the words of the one who gave me this info..."Get the idea?"...

As you can see I have put quite a bit into the REAL research of the biological parent's (BESSIE LOUISE HELTON and THEODORE JENKINS).. My cousins had requested it because of medical history. My aunt BETTY LOU (Lou was short for Louise..cute..) died of "Cardiopulmonary Arrest, Congestive Cardiomyopathy, End Stage Renal Failure and Diabetes Mellitus".in other words wouldn't it perhaps had saved my Aunt's life to know the "honest to God?" truth about her birth and birthparent's....

Im sorry that for whatever reasons my grandma or mom which ever one told me that my aunt BETTY LOU wasn't the biological child of my grandma. I did love my grandparent's but the truth is they were dysfuntional, angry people. They drank and were very physically violent with their children. I LOVED THEM BOTH!! But you still need to separarate fact from fiction. My grandmother adored me and protected me often from my frightening home situation. This is not a "bashing" but a "breakthrough" to where our family really descends from.

I love being who I am with all these different lines and lifestyles..it's ok because I am a product and culmination of all these event's. God knows Ive got a great sense of humor!!

All info honest, true and factual.

Dear Sandra, What are the names of your Wallaces? Most of my Wallace/Wallis family members lived in what is now Union Co., Tenn, but before Union Co. was formed it was Knox Co. I am a descendant of Luther Wallace of Union Co. whose father was Stevenson Wallace who died in 1865. His father was supposedly first in Tennessee. Does this ring any bell for you? My cousin has been working on the Wallace line for many years and it goes way back. But I like to do my own research and like to share with others which is half of the fun of genealogy. I sure hope you will write back soon. Bonnie

Does anyone know of a Caroline MARY b. about 1812 in Knox Co., Tennessee? Would the surname MARY be the same as O'MARY? I'm not even certain that Mary is the surname of this woman ...anyway, she married Rev. John CRAIG in about 1832; he was 60, she was 20. They had 2 children, Isaac Easterling CRAIG and Mary CRAIG. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance, Anita Tally

Bonnie; The earliest Wallis/Wallace I have is Nimrod born about 1820 in NC. he married Delitha (Artic) J. Jennings on Sept. 28, 1843 or 1844 in Green County, TN. I have nothing before him. I just have his pension paper from the National Archives but they had just that he enlisted in 1863, discharged in 1865 and died on 2-28-1876 at home in Knox County, TN. He is buried at Ball Camp Church yard in Knox Co. His pension paper had more information on his children and wife than him. Here is all his children names and date of births: Ruth Elizabeth Wallace born 7-29-1846 John J. Wallace born 6-5-1848 Solomon McAually Wallace born 2-11-1850 Thomas Jefferson Wallace born 5-25-1852 Elijah Wallace born 3-24-1853 Nimrod Wallace born 12-31-1854 Nancy A. Wallace born 2-24-1857 Shorlotia V. Wallace born 5-16-1859 William M. Wallace born 8-3-1861 George C. Wallace born 2-8-1865 Adaline Wallace born 8-7-1869 died 9-30-1882 buried same place as her father, in Knox County. Caledonia Wallace born 3-12-1872 My line is through George C. Wallace. He is buried in Woodlawn in LaFollette, Campbell County, TN. I still have Wallace from this line living in LaFollette today. I sure hope we have some of the same people in our tree. Look forward in hearing back from you. Sandy

Re: Kaisers & Julians
Doyle Broome -- Wednesday, 8 March 2000, at 1:44 p.m.

Chuck, I did recieve your message concerning George Julian and his children. They might be the people I am looking for but there are some differences which cause doubt. According to Family Treemakers Genealogy info on the Descendants of Rene St Julian of which your Georege is a descendant. Georges daughter Nancy is listed as marrying a Benjamin Naugle 11-2-1809 Fairfield County Ohio. She could have left the Kaiser fellow and went to Ohio when the family moved on. This would contradict the info that she was married to a Kaiser and wound up in Mississippi. Also, your George does not list a Rebecca which is one of the girls. George's son William, according to the census is the right age birth wise but was listed as living past 1850. My William married Nancy Wilhite in 1802 in Jefferson County which is only across the Tennessee River from where they lived in Knox County, but he died about 1828. The person that compiled the info might not know the death date and only speculated about that. They don't list any info on him so chances are they really don't know anything about him or his wife or family. Rebecca could be a cousin and not a sister or she might be the daughter listed as Susannah which you have as number six with no name. Please look at this info and anything you may have and get back to me with any thoughts. It is interesting that Your William and my William are listed with same birth years. I never considered George or his family because I have not seen any info that said he stopped over in Tenn on his way to Ohio until you supplied the info that you have on George. Look this site up on Rene St Julian that I mentioned and study it. There does seem to be more info on your line than what you already have. Look forward to hearing from you.-Doyle

Pvt. William Sherrod
Mike Sherrod -- Thursday, 9 March 2000, at 8:50 a.m.

I am looking for anyone who knows if Pvt. William Sherrod came from Knox County to Texas to join the Republic of Texas Army. I have a copy of his discharge I received from the Texas General Land Office that indicates that he came to Texas and joined the Army in February 1836 and was discharged in September 1836 after Mexico surrendered to General Sam Houston. There were many volunteers from Tennessee and I want to find out if William came from Tennessee.

Any help would be appreciated. Did anyone keep a record of the names of men who came to Texas to fight? It is my understanding that this is how you got your state motto "The Volunteer State".

Thanks,

KNOX County RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON
KITTY ELIZABETH PARTON -- Sunday, 12 March 2000, at 1:30 a.m.

Do you know of a "WILSON" family who had a daughter named RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON..ever see her name in your census research? She was married from 1899(approx.) thru possibly 1926, residing in KNOX COUNTY TENNESSEE. I believe she was from either OHIO, SEVIER TN or KNOX TN. DAVID WILLIAM HELTON was said to have worked for the railroad there in Tennessee..which could have been the ?...Knoxville Southern Railroad, Knoxville & Kentucky Railroad, Knoxville & Ohio Railroad or the Charleston Railway aka the "Blue Ridge". He was an employee there while wed to RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON. I was told he died during a "train coupling" accident. I searched the death index from 1912 thru 1925 for Knox and he is not there. He must have died between 1926 and 1931. RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON remarried and moved to OHIO where she had two more sons with her new spouse. In 1930/31 my grandmother BESSIE LOUISE HELTON recvd a divorce from her husband THOEDORE JENKINS. At that time she moved to OHIO with her daughter BETTY LOU JENKINS and lived with her mother and stepfather. A few months after that my grandfather JAY EASTEL PARTON (from Barbourbille, Pulaski Co., KY) met her up there and left his spouse ETHEL MABES in Kentucky with two of their children (maybe three #?) see Pulaski Co., Barbourville KY for more search on PARTON line.

DAVID WILLIAM HELTON, RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON, BESSIE LOUIE HELTON, CHRYSTINE HELTON, ALFRED HELTON,...please see my PARTON online family tree located at ancestry.com for further lines on this family tree of mind.

Betsy Gammill-Hayes <bghrealtor@home.com> -- Wednesday, 1 March 2000, at 3:15:48 p.m.

Thanks.

KITTY ELIZABETH PARTON <kittyparton@yahoo.com> -- Wednesday, 8 March 2000, at 8:42:11 a.m.

KNOX County RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON
KITTY ELIZABETH PARTON <kittyparton@yahoo.com> -- Sunday, 12 March 2000, at 2:30:18 a.m.

I am the great grand daughter of DAVID WILLIAM HELTON and RUBY ESMERALDA WILSON...thank you in advance..if you want you may email me at kittyparton@yahoo.com or mail at 105 Oak Rim Court, Los Gatos CA 95032...have a great day!
