Hi Don, Wow, your information sounds like it might match for my Thomas McMillan. Did he have a brother named Dugan and two sisters (unfortunately I don't have their names-one of which may be your Ester). I did mention in my original posting that the Thomas I have was married to Rebecca Wolfenbarger. Do you know if the Thomas you have was married to her? If those answers come up with yes we've got a match. Thanks for responding to my posting :) It's been an interesting search so far.

I am not sure of the oldest, but here are some of the ones that I know have been around a while. Mynatt's in Fountain City, McCarty's in Burlington. In Union Co, there is Cooks and Ailors. Check maynardville.com for info on some of the cemeteries there. There may be some info on Cookes and Ailors Funeral Homes. The Union Co Historical Society has some information on funerals that Ailor's has handled. You might post a query on the UC msg board. Where did your relative live, in Knoxville or Luttrell? Where is he buried? In 1923, I don't know if there were funeral homes or just undertakers. Hope this helps.

I am also trying to find my Morris family in Knoxville. My great, great grandmother was Sarah Jane Morris from New River near Todd, NC. She married William Hodges, Jr. and they had 9 children. When William died (in GA), she brought her unmarried children to Knoxville, bought a farm in the Karns community in west Knox County. We assumed that she had relativies in Knoxville, why else would she have made that long trip alone. Her Father was James Morris of NC and mother was Sarah Jane Hodges. I do know that she had a sister named Francis and called Fanny who married William's brother, John "Jack" Hodges. Sound like a connection?

I am looking for a marriage between Winnie or Winnifred Meals to a Morris sometimes between l802 and l8l8. Did Knox Co. keep marriage records for these years? If so, are they posted on the web? If not on the web, can anyone tell me how and where to look for this marriage record? Thank you for whatever help you can provide.

I am looking for if anyone knows of a James Monday b: 1795 in TN. His spouse was Elizabeth "Betsy" Hamilton. They had five children named Emily, Samuel, Joshua hamilton, William, Mahala. I have reason to beleive that there was one other child named Pleasant C. Monday. I think that at the time of the census was taken he had moved out onto his own and started his own family.
Pleasant was b: in 1821 in TN and d: 6-14-1863 in Pulaski Co., KY he was m: in 1841 in Claiborne Co., TN to a Elizabeth C. Williams who was born in 1824 in TN. They had eight children named Sarah Jane b: 1842 in Claiborne Co., TN, Josepgh P. b: 1844 also in TN, Eleanor Mahaily b: in TN; but d: in KY she amrried an Isaac L. Hughes., Judge Monday b: 1850 TN, Hester Ann b: 1852 TN., Mary A. b: 1855 KY., Lucy Clark b: 1857 KY., James W. KY.
James son William is my ggg grandfather he was born in 1839 TN., and married Mildred Graves. They had four children named Melvina E.(my gg grandmother), James, Caloway, Eli.
I think James and Elizabeth moved to KY with Pleasant with his wife and children. I also have reason to beleive that james had a brother named Samuel who married Deliha Rogers. If anyone could help me out with any of these names that would be great.
Thanks,
Al

Re: WOODY, Catherin m.1845 Knox Co., TN
Patsy Faulk -- Monday, 22 May 2000, at 4:03 p.m.
Hi, Have just been to library searching for Catherine Wooddy Varner. She would have been my gggrandmother. She had a daughter named Sarah, born January 15, 1842 in Tennessee. She married my ggrandfather William Hampton in McMinn County, Tenn. April 22, 1842. I have records from their grave marker as well as family Bible records. She always went by Varner so we thought her maiden name was Varner. Found, tho. that her mother, Catherine, married Jacob Varner. I found dates today of a Catherine Keller marrying Isaac Wooddy (Spelling in records match my Sarah Wooddy marrying my ggrandfather in McMinn. Perhaps they often left off the other "d") on January 14, 1840 in Knox County. Also a record in Knox County of Jacob Varner marrying Catherine Woody on 10-16-1845 in Knox County. There was a duplicate record of same parties marrying in Knox County on 12-7-1845. (Strange)
I would be most interested in hearing from you and your research. I have just started trying to trace my Hamptons and I am at a deadend in McMinn, Tenn. with marriage of Sarah Wooddy and Wm Hampton. I think that Wm's father is Thomas in 1850 census of Washington County and his grandfather the Wm Hampton found living next to him in Washington County. But I need more links. The Wooddy's and Varners may certainly help. I know that there are Arkansas Wooddy's connected to Hamptons back in North Carolina but just can't make link.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello Peggy,
James Bruce is buried in Knox Co, KY, where he lived and raised his family - his father, mother and a sister are buried in the Bishopville Cemetary. I cannot seem to find anything about them, or where they came from, but will now know to check the Knox Co, TN records to see if there is any listing there.
Thanks, Bruce

Varner -- Sunday, 28 May 2000, at 4:14 p.m.
I am searching for the ancestors of Catherine KELLER. On January 14, 1840 the Knox Co. Marriage Records have she marring Isaac WOODDY. I believe that Isaac dies/divorces and leaves Catherine with two children; Henderson WOODDY b. abt. 1841, and Sarah H. b. abt 1843. I think she then is the Catherine WOODY that marries Jacob (Ira) Varner in Knox Co. in November of 1845. Catherine and Jacob have at least two girls and three boys. Sarah goes by the name VARNER untill she marries [McMinn Co.]. Catherine, Jacob and Sarah are all die in Cherokee Co., AL. Your help will be appreciated.

I'm looking for Dock Jones and/or his brother, Bart Jones, sons of James J. Jones of NC. Either or both may have been a blacksmith. Both moved to Knoxville, Tn. Probably born between 1870 and 1885. My grandfather, David L. Jones is the son of one of them. David had at least one brother, called Jerry and one sister, who married Alfred Gott and moved to the Cherry Hill area. (I think Cherry Hill is now referred to as Union Hill). David was born in 1893. Any help will be appreciated. Sue Willey email: felinesmama@msn.com

I don't believe I have the information you need but I am a decendant of the Kings in Knox Co. during that period. My GGrandmother married a Tom King who we believe was killed at the beginning of the Civil War and they had at least one child Thomas. She never remarried but had several children and was found on Census Records as Oma King from 1860 to 1900's. I have other info at home that I will be happy to share if it could be of any help. I have never been able to confirm any of the info on the first Tom King but would love to get marriage records or even Civil War Records on him. Let me know if I have any info that you can use. Thanks, Carolyn Turner

There is a photo of "your" steamboat in the book "A Pictoral History of Knoxville" by Judith Clayton Isenhour. The photo shows the boat tied up at the Tennessee Sand and Lime Co. dock below the Gay Street bridge in 1895. The ship, actually the Lucille Bordon, looks like a rather large stern-wheeler. The photo credit is for TVA, maybe they still have it in their archives.
