Kidd

Posted by Darren Blankenship <letsjav@aol.com> on Mon, 30 Nov 1998

Surname: Kidd

I'm looking for information on my my great grandfather's parents. My great grandfather, William Lafayette Kidd, was born in Knoxville on February 12, 1874, but since birth records don't begin until about 1914 in Knoxville, I cannot find his mother's surname. From what I have been able to find her first name was Jane. Her husband's name was Francis Kidd (went by Lee) from Maryville. They had five children that I have been able to find: David Lee, Bartley, Josephine, William Lafayette, and Jefferson. Since family records are scarce, any help would be appreciated.

Barbara Elizabeth Gunn Born September 13, 1819 in Tn. d. in Robertson Co., Tn.

Posted by Nancy <nlewisjm@bellsouth.net> on Sun, 29 Nov 1998

Surname: GUNN

Reading a file on the GUNN family in our public library today, I came upon some information that the Gunn's were in Knox Co. also. I have been looking for Barbara Elizabeth GUNN b September 13, 1819, somewhere in Tennessee. She married David Williams on October 16, 1839 in Robertson Co., Tn.. The marriage certificate reads:
Barbary E. Gunn weds David Williams.
October 16,1839
Sol. James M. Gunn, J.P.
Robertson County, Tn.
I have a Bible with the name Rev. James T. Gunn written in it which was given to my grandfather by Rev. Gunn. I also have a Bible dictionary of his. I can't find Barbara in any Robertson County records, wills, etc.. Only in the census reports after she married, David's estate settlement and their marriage certificate. I also know where they are buried but there is no headstone now.
If you could help me, I would really appreciate it very much.
Thank you.
Please email me directly also as I live away from here.

PETREE

Posted by Steve Jacobson <sjacobso@bmi.net> on Sat, 21 Nov 1998

Surname: PETREE

HI,
Part of the problem is that earlier in Grainger Co. and Sullivan Co. there are and still are Petree's(also soundex spelling)Only part of the sons of 2-3 brothers have been found. Our line of John George Petree went to Campbell Co. but by 2 generations were back in the Knoxville area and are today. Known petrey\ee from that early 1800, took about 2 generations to have some end up in Knox Co. but as i said not all the children of John Adam Petre\ry\ee of Sullivan Co. have been found. Adam is listed in Speedwell's and his daughters married the BEELERS, names like John and William were very common in the early 1800's but more then likely you could look back at Sullivan Co. for Adam Petree's children and find your John etc.

Maple Grove, Ebenezer

Posted by Bill Johnson <johnsob4@erols.com> on Fri, 06 Nov 1998

Surname: BROWN, Koon, McCaughan

My father's amternal line is from Knoxville (Ebenezer), TN. His mother was Georgia Belle (Koon) Roberts. She first married my grandfather Alvis Johnson and later, after their divorce, secretly married Charlie Roberts. Her parents were Annie R. Brown, daughter of Rev. Joseph A. Brown and Margaret Isabella McCaughan, and William Koon, parents unknown, partner in the Koon and Peters Construction Company which had many contracts with the Southern railroad. I have almost no other information on this line because my grandmother, Georgia Belle died some 20 years before I was born and she left no records. ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill Johnson.

John WOOD in Greene Co.

Posted by Jack W. Wood <jwood-swartz@juno.com> on Fri, 06 Nov 1998

Surname: WOOD

Searching for information about John WOOD, a Revolutionary War soldier. He was awarded a land grant for 1,820 acres by the state of NC for his service. The grant was located in Green Co., or present day Knox Co., along the Holston River from the mouth of the French Broad, which I believe is the site of present day Knoxville. The grant was issued in 1786. I am trying to determine if this is the John WOOD who later migrated to Roane Co., and who his parents/descendents are.

SNOW, Joseph b. 1842, son of James & Cassia

Posted by Jeanne Rinear <rancher@alaska.net> on Wed, 04 Nov 1998

Surname: SNOW, LAYMANCE, HILL, HART

I believe Joseph Snow is said to have been born in Knoxville, Knox County, TN. Some dates say the birth was 1842 and others say January 21, 1843. He was raised in Honnicutt or Honeycutt also called Oakdale, Morgan County, TN. I am trying to locate descendants of Joseph's siblings listed as Charity born about 1829, Mary born about 1833, Diena born about 1836 and possibly married Wm. H. H. Taylor, Sarah born about 1838, Thomas born about 1840. These children are listed under James and Cassia Snow in the 1850 Morgan County Census. Possibly James and Cassia were in Knoxville for some work when Joseph was born or since Oakdale was so small they family always said Knoxville in order to locate a place people would identify. Any help on this family is appreciated. Thanks, Jeanne
